2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
(bottle, 33cl) Slightly hazy, amber colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Sweet roasty malty with notes of dark and steamed bread (Pumpernickel), an earthy touch and mildly spicy notes. Sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Bready and moderately toasted malty taste with earthy notes and a subtle fruity touch; sweet malty and slightly spicy finish with traces of caramel in the aftertaste. Not one of my favourites. 11.I.11

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 7, 2009 Bottled Bavik version Very light gushing to amber/cream head over pale foxy beer. Very nutty nose, sweet bread, very much like the aromas of a - very slightly oxidized - German Bock. Slightly burnt, roasted taste, Maillard-like. No trace of superfluous sweetness, but then no hoppiness neither. Bit thinnish body and MF, some slickness. Original recipe? Iím starting to believe it, too unsimilar to other Bavik brews, different feel. Was: 6/3/7/3/13
Rerating Draught @ brewpub Red-yellow fine & dense head over copper-clear beer. Lemony nose, slightly coloured malts, paint, caramel, faint spices in the finish. Dry, grainy, very malty like malt cookies. Plain and neutral, but certainly inviting. Gives me an impression of liquidized wholemeal bread. Medium bodied at best, some slickness. Much better to my liking than the bottled beer from Bavik. Yes, itís easier to get it right, fresh from the lagertank, but thereís really something better. And I think itís more than the spices, Annick!

330ml bottle pours clear rusty amber. Nose of twangy munich malt, soggy bread, some crackers, very little hops noticed in the aroma. Flavor is wet bread, bran, toast, maple, etc. Fairly bland overall, with a twangy soggy bread loaf flavor in the finish. Passable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by nuplastikk on 8/7/08: Pours a transparent dark golden bronze with a lightly-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet fruity malts and a touch of biscuity yeast. Body starts fairly full with a finely dissolved carbonation and doughy dark caramel sweetness with a hint of spice toward a dry toasty finish.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
11.2 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine in Richmond. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a medium head. Aroma of grain, stone fruits and nuts. Taste is grain, caramel, nuts and a muted fruity note. Medium bodied. Not nearly as good as the wit, sadly.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Ruby with a rapidly diminishing off-white halo, appearing pinkish. Aroma: doppelbock-like malt loaf with cherry and liquorice hints. Pleasant and uneventful; glacť cherry and caramel sweetness departing with a lingering impression of wet dough, pastry and nutmeg spiciness as from an English yeast strain. Mellow, slightly buttery, very drinkable but a bit dead. Neither bad nor good.
