COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this ancient tradition with Gruut Amber Ale. Enjoy it’s rich taste, deep copper color, and smooth-drink-ability.

Bottle, bought @ Beer Planet, Brussels.
Pours a stunning, clear deep red amber with a staying, medium, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is very fruity, lots of red berries, oranges, light estery. A citric edge to it. Medium carbonation, fair and kinda grainy mouthfeel. Flavour surprises, very malty, rather sweet, a hint of oxidation, red currants, mild tartness. Fair dryish finish. Not really that spectacular.

Aroma: Fruity aroma. Appearance: amber, clear. Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Palate: medium body, thin feel, bitterzweet finish. Overall: Good amber ale!

Creamy agreeable texture, some roastiness and caramel. Not a bad result for a beer without hops, but I’m not totally convinced by the spicing that replaces them,

Poured on tap in the brewery’s signature glass - a tall slightly curved pilsner style glass with a mirrored surface for the anamorphic art on the coasters. Had about a finger of head that retreated quickly to moderate lacing. Color is a rich golden amber with few bubbles. Nose hints slightly of roasted grain. Almost a bit smoky. The smokiness really comes out in first taste. Pleasant surprise for an amber. Lots of fruitiness, maybe even a bit tart. Very, very different from a traditionally hopped amber - not surprising, since Gruut uses a special herb mixture in place of hops. Outstanding amber with complex flavors and supreme drinkability.

I bought that beer to taste and I was disappointed by the taste and the finish of the beer. There’s caramel in the aroma, the taste reminf me an english ale.

Bottle. Bronze with low carbonation. Medium body with a malty clean taste. Nothing exceptional but still quite pleasant to drink.

Clear amber coloured beer with small white head and medium carbonation. Herby sweet aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is malty slight roasted with bitter dry ending.
