"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this tradition with Gruut Wit Beer. Enjoy it’s natural cloudiness, golden color, and refreshing finish.

Sampled from tap at the brewpub. Hazy, pale yellow with a slightly creamy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, a little sourish, moderately fruity and slightly spicy aroma of lemon zest, coriander, some banana and a touch of clove. Sweetish, slightly sourish, fruity and a bit spicy taste of lemon zest, coriander, some banana and hints of cloves, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a bit tart and minimally yeasty-spicy finish. Thin to medium body, smooth, slightly effervescent and minimally astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice Wit!

33cl bottle. Pours a hazy straw yellow colour with a small but long lasting creamy white head. Aroma is a little weak, just some citrus and wheat. Flavour is a bit bland, citrus and wheat again, couldn’t detect any spices one would expect. Not unpleasant but disappointing for a witbier.
