Bottle. An almost clear one, golden in color and with a big off-white head. The aroma is quite cellarish and fruity, with some hay and flowers. It’s medium bodied and semi-sweet, with a soft carbonation. Cellar, hay and some flower in the flavor. Lasting finish with too much hay and cellar. Not very interesting or tasteful this one. 150711

Best een fijn biertje om te drinken. Bier is licht fruitig en goed doordrinkbaar. Middelmatige afdonk helaas.

Light amber, bit hazy with moderate white head. Strong bitterness and presebce of yeasty notes, but not too rich with them, sharp taste and also certain waterness.

Bottle. Big white foamy head with good retention. Hazy yellowish golden colour. Aroma is weak malty, fruity, with some sweetness and spicy notes. Taste is fruity (pinneaple), caramel, toasted malt, alcohol presence with spicy (cinnamon, ginger) and fruity finish. Medium body and high carbonation. Nice beer, spicy.

330ml bottle from ’Tartu, clear gold colour, medium fizzy mostly vanishing white head, little lacing. Moderately malty aroma of grain, caramel and hay with moderate floral and herbal hops and a bit of alcohol, spiciness and peachy yeast esthers. Taste is initially slightly sweet, turning into a moderately bitter finish with a warming boozy feel. Medium to full body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Not a particularly amazing belgian ale, almost like it was between a strong lager and belgian trippel. Still a fair bit of aroma depth and far from offensive.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2015 Tasted a few years ago outside the brewery’s pub. Clear orangey blonde beer with very thick, Duvel-like, frothy head leaving firm lacing. Fruity nose with bready malts, spiciness, ’jenever’, grass, vanilla, peaches and pineapple; fruity and crisp taste, very agreeable, smooth maltiness adorned with spicy and yeasty notes here and there, herbal finish with some warming, not disturbing alcohol, drying. A very well-balanced beer, at least fresh from tap at the brewery. Duvel-inspired, it seems; in any case the best of Gruut’s beers so far, at least to my opinion.
