“Grand miežių” beer (9,5%) is a very strong sort of lager beer, produced according to the old Lithuanian traditions using an especially high quality light barley malt, best bitter and aromatic hops, clear water, with a bit of corn to make the aromatic spectrum of beer original and unique.

Bottle. Aroma is heavy cereal grains and lager yeasts. Hazy medium orange amber hue with medium white head that mostly diminished and left ok lace. Flavor is heavy sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied and oily soft with a noticeable alcohol presence on the finish. Overall a big beer in all the wrong places. Too much macro lager and not enough fresh ingredients.

500ml can pours a pale amber color with a 2 finger white head that settles quickly leaving no lacing behind. Aromas are cheap corny malts and light hops. Taste is sickly sweet with alcohol and very little hop bitterness. Medium body with modest carbonation. About what I was expecting which is pretty much a cheap malt liquor.

A: The beer pours a clear light amber color with a finger of white head. S: Smells of apple cider and prunes with a fair amount of booze. There is a bit of peppermint aroma, strangely. It’s cloyingly sweet and sugary. T: Same sort of characteristics on the palate. Very sweet, quite sugary, and lots of prunes/prune juice. There is a pretty heavy dose of booze. A touch of malt to it, though. M: Sort of syrupy for a malt liquor/strong lager. Medium carbonation. O: The fine country of Lithuania has some work to do on this one.

Originally rated May 2007. Malt liquor from Lithuania, new arrival at The Beer Store in Ontario. Sounds like fun. Pours a deep golden colour with a decent head, leaving nothing around the glass and disappearing fast. Not much carbonation. Just a few tiny bubbles here and there coming to surface. Came in a can for me, so no green bottle, no skunk. The nose is not repulsive, just a bit sweet with some fruits (like oranges) and a bit of alcohol. Even after a few sips, I can feel my head getting bigger (not a Sledgehammer lyric). Oily mouthfeel without too much burn. The taste is like butter mixed with sweet malt and a slight dry aftertaste. Feeling now the drunkeness. Not as bad as I read.

Cheap tall boy can, tastes like rubber, rubbing alcohol, and prolapse. Not sure what is up the the "Grand" tag as it seems to be something that varies form brewer to brewer.

With thanks to Jerc & Mabel for the can. It’s been sitting in my fridge for months and I decided to make beer can/butt chicken so I cracked it open, poured the first half into my glass and used the remainder for the recipe. Anyhow. Appearance: Cloudy orange, quite murky with a white head that vanished almost immediately. Aroma: Oh my, a brand new plastic aroma, sweet too, air freshener sweet. Weird. Flavour: Tons of corn syrup, malty, so sweet, almost sticky, alcohol is hiding anything other than the plastic and sugar. Not BAD but not good at all.

Tasting from Jan’ 2010.
Pour is hazy, minute particles floating about. Orange gold body with minuscule bubbles raising to a flaccid, sudsy beige head that barely holds on for the length with little legs. Medicinal, sweet and spicy ethanol and fusel alcohol fuelled nose reminiscent of nail polish remover and liquid candy. Pungent, stings the olfactories. Alcohol fuelled body, very spicy and hot, medicinal like the aroma and syrupy, viscous but weirdly not overly big bodied. Lacking balance or control, violent spiked fruit punch if there were esters, cheap vodka finish with hints of candied musk peaking through. Deadly beer if there was one! Grand it is not!!! Poured with a nice, foamy, cream colored head that fades to soap bubbles then to almost none. No lace. Aroma is malt, caramel, grain, sweet. Flavor is like nose but very sweet. A little hop bitter in there plus a bit of tang from the CO2. Also solvents. Body is a full and heavy. Carbonation seems a bit fizzy. Finish is sweet and thankfully not too long. A few swallows is all I want, the rest to the drain.
