2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma: subtle roast and coffee, very faint. Pours black, fizzy off-white head dissipates quickly and leaves some thin lacing. Flavor has some nice chocolate and roast, coffee and earthy notes. Body is a bit thin, medium carbonation.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured into a Lager Glass. Pours really dark brown almost black. Nice frothy head with a little lacing on the glass. aroma is pleasant, roasted malts and almost a citrusy smell too. Flavour is clean and finishes with the roasty notes. Palate is thin and watery, but thatís the point of a lager. Carbonation is lively on the tongue. Overall one of the better Black Lagers Iíve tried.

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours clear dark brown with nice layer of frothy brown head. Aroma is corny and bland, slight roasty, but very minimal - stale. Flavor very dry and burnt. Pretty watery. Overall, decent drink for the fall, but overall lacks the depth I was hoping for.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours very dark, with tan head. Very little aroma. Taste of Carmel and a little malt. Smooth enough, but really not that great. Canít give this one a thumbs up.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
11.2 ounce bottle - Taco Mac in Canton, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a near black body with very dark mahogany-hued hints at the edge and topped with a small-sized, off-white head.
Smell: Ultra faint hint of roast. And...well... Thereís just not much at all to it.
Taste: Pale malted barley, maybe even a trifling inclusion of pils malt. Very, very low roastiness, more like they added caramel coloring to achieve the color. Faintly herbal hint of hops with a minute bitterness. More of the same (which isnít much) until the crispish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Reasonably crisp.
Overall: As bland, boring, and deficient as their flagship beer but without the treasured history of the standard Guinness Stout.

2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
bottle poured into tulip. Thick short lived tan head, fair lacing, dark coffee/red. smell, black pepper, ashes without smokey-ness, almost invisible caramel malt smell very late, a touch of oregano? Taste ashes and soap. Small bubble carbonation, hops arrive after a brief resting period then stick to middle tongue. Overall, this is a weird, incomplete beer. It is a rougher yet thinner version of Koestritezerís Schwartzbier.
Suggestion, I blended this beer with a homebrew barley wine (11.71abv) and an OíDouls Amber (near beer/non-alcohol)...and it was delicious.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Funny, its like a lagered version of the stout. Thin, roasty and insipid, with a plain finish. Light, nearly watery palate. Bleh.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Deep brown approaching black. Frothy, off-white head, rapidly diminishing. Light aroma of similar to a pale lager but with a hint of roast, but only a hint. Toasted grain, earthiness. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. "Guinness" taste in the finish. But light on the roast for a schwarzbier. Easy drinking, but thin. No wonder Guinness suggests drinking it very cold.
