3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A weird one this. It doesnít taste like a lager, it tastes like a watered down Guinness. Malt, cocoa and light coffee on the palate, maybe a bit of a black tea notes as well. Much thinner consistency as well. Not sure who it was aimed, young drinkers, session drinkers who find Guinness too heavy? Itís an experiment which didnít pay off for Guinness, but I would try it again.
Tried in Northern Ireland when it was first launched.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
330 ml bottle from Liquor Depot, served in yet another thrift shop find, a Stella Artois chalice. (It replaces one that I unfortunately broke before it had a chance to hold more than just two or three beers. A shame, as it had no wear showing on the gold rim and logo.) Pours an opaque near-black shade with a cocoa-hued head that leaves fine lace webbing. Doughy, roasted grains and malts, earthy and herbal noble hops, plus grass, and hints of straw, cocoa, and coffee on the nose. Overall flavor is very whole-wheat bready - similar to a brown ale, but without ale yeastís spiciness, it lacks a little in dimension, but itís appealingly smooth-drinking all the same. Creamy and chewy as well. Definitely a well-done dark lager, with plenty of body and a very welcome, sessionable ABV of 4.5%.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Opaque black hue with a beige head that settles rapidly. Lager driven aroma with notes of malt and honey, but with the addition of roast. Extremely thin bodied. Malt, hay, honey and roast flavour. Lacks robustness as expected, but quite refreshing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Downtown Discount Beverage. Aroma is purple grape/dark fruits, noble hops. Appearance is dark brown--almost opaque--with small off-white head that fades quickly. Trace lacing. Taste is strong rich malts with dark fruit and mild noble hop bitter balance. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture and tongue-stinging lively carbonation with crisp finish. Overall, more fruity than a traditional Schwarzbier but good nonetheless.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
Funny how Guinness has these other products that I never think about.... and occasionally bump into running around the planet. This has a decent foamy head and black body, sorta the non-creamy version of the "proper" Guiness product ifín you will. Macro barley on the nose, nothing more, nothing less, adequate. Flavour is faint roasted barley. Really watery palate. Not sure what the point is, itís sort of like a watered down stout. Odd thing, not awful, but I wouldnít buy it again.

Bottle. Pretty dark brown pour with a decent tan head. Aroma is roasty chocolate, simple but not bad. Flavour is thin and metallic, not much going on at all.
