terrymingle (5), Cortland, New York, USA does not count May 20, 2009 Because I favor dark beers, Guinness is one of my all-time favorites. I like the bitterness of the brew and the notes of coffee in the aroma. Not much carbonation, but when you pour it you get a decent head on the brew. Bought it in the can with the widget. livelaughlovep (96), Lakewood, Ohio, USA May 14, 2009 This is where it all started for me. Maybe you too. I remember how viscous and thick it felt, and how hard it was to finish a bottle. Now its almost too thin, but the flavor still hits the spot - Malty, toasted, biscuits, a little smoke. Nothing fancy, but in that is the beauty of it. Classic. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA May 10, 2009 Updated: May 19, 2009Nitrogenated can. Pours the signature Guinness pour. Guinness is a rather straight-forward beer; a nice roast character, a tiny bit of sour, and a firm bitterness. Although not overly complex, and pales in comparison to other stouts of today, it is extremely refreshing and holds sentimental value as one of the first beers with real character to lure me into craft beer. drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA May 8, 2009 Draught at a local. Pours a beautiful creamy, lasting head, over a dark brown (SRM 25) body.....nose of mild sweet malts, bit of bready yeast.....tastes of heavily roasted malts, bit of coffee, slight bitter finish...mouth feel is very light....this was a great beer 35 years ago, and although it was served a bit too cold, it does not stand up to the micros of today. sdriessen (203), Dunedin, New Zealand May 8, 2009 From a can with the little Nitrogen widget.
The pour looks awesome because of this... The rest however:
Has a berry, malty scent, with some smoke.
Quite savoury flavours. Far too watery to how I enjoy my stouts, and it has this strange tequila-like taste to it. How does this rate so high? Maybe I’m drinking it incorrectly. Memo to self: Try Guinness on tap in Ireland. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009
It smells like dirty water. There is just very little in the aromatics, which is probably why you shouldnt be surprised that there isnt a lot of taste.
Its watery, too watery, but it makes it a great stout for long sessions. bluecollarboy (36), Illinois, USA May 5, 2009 Roasted barley overtones with undertones of bitter malt. Beautiful appearence similar to coffee. flavor is roasted malt with subtle chocolate and coffee notes. Finishes thick, yet smooth. Overall, this is one of my favorite brews ever, if the the favorite. I always say you can tell a true beer drinker from a hard-partying college-student by whether or not they like a pint of Guinness. I am a life-long follower. agillespie81 (190), Denver, Colorado, USA May 4, 2009 Opaque, black color...very thick head, with great lacing. Aroma has a slight touch of sourness, with strong roasted malt notes. A hint of sweetness in the front blends with a strong malt flavor throughout...extremely smooth mouthfeel. Bold roasted malt flavor dominates the back. Finish is long and dry. A true classic...though not the very best of its style, this brew is the one that the very best of its style are judged against.
