Something of a guilty pleasure of mine, Guinness always leaves me satisfied. It may not be as strong as other stouts (although visually it’s perfect) but its thinner, dark taste is nonetheless pleasing.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2011 Re-rated - Keg @ Steamboat, Lossiemouth.
Appearance - Just the iconic appearance of Guinness here.
Aroma - Roasted malts, bit of cereal.
Taste - Again, roasted malts, some cereal, bitter plain chocolate. Is rather bland for a stout, but more flavour than other mass produced brews.
Palate - Creamy mouthfeel with the head, then thin afterwards. Dry, finish with a bit of chocolate (If not fresh, more bitter with metallic notes and no chocolate. A good pint is has a finish that is smoother, less bitter, with roasted malts and a hint of chocolate)
Overall - Best mass produced keg beer in the UK.

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is dry, light roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is roasted malt and some chocolate, as well as a little bit of dark fruit. The mouthfeel is where I really have a problem with the beer. I am not a fan of nitro beers, which almost always taste watered down to me. The mouthfeel is thin to medium.

Draft at many places including St James Gate. Current pint at an Irish bar in th Hague. What more is there to say about Guinness? It amazes me they they have made a stout mainstream.

Two minute poor into a pint. Sits beautifully perfect white froth over solid black body. Smells slightly of roasted coffee and cardboard. Taste is get mild like coffee and skim milk heavily diluted in water.

I’ve had Guinness in both cans and as draft over the years. What more can I add, really? Near black colour, completely blocks light, great off-white head. Toffee flavour. Body is sometimes watery. Overall, everyone already knows what to expect from Guinness; does it matter if I recommend it?

Draught at Cairnbann Hotel. Pours opaque black at the bottom, a chocolate colour just below the head with a creamy head. The nose has a hint of chocolate in amongst burnt malt and cream. The taste has chocolate and then there are notes of smoke and cream. The palate has a rich structure with a big creamy texture in the middle section and a clean-ish finish. Overall, this is the best Guinness I’ve had outside Dublin.
