UPDATED: MAY 23, 2011 This will always be one of my all-time favorite beers. It has everything I want in a beer. It’s think, dark, foamy, creamy and not overpowering in taste.

Poured an extremely dark red with a nice foamy head. Aroma was of roasted malts with hints of coffee and fruit/hops. Taste was of roasted malts with coffee and chocolate background hints. Hop level was moderate to mild. Palate was somewhat thin considering the appearance and head retention. Very little carbonation as well. Most of it must have went into the nice head. Overall, pretty decent but not great by any means.

Can with nitrogen widget. Pours black and cascading bubbles with offwhite head that stays. Aroma is roasty and bready. Appearance is very dark ruby and almost black. Mouthfeel is smooth and slick. Taste is not as strong as expected from the color. Full roasted malt flavor with a little hop bitterness at the end in the back of the throat. This is a good go to beer that does not have the bite of some stouts.

A standard and world classic. Always crisp yet creamy, and substantial yet refreshing. I could drink this every day for the rest of my life.

Nitro bottle purchased at Total Wine in Alexandria. Glad to have that zero taken out of my profile. Only one to go now. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass. The pour is nearly a thing of beauty. The nitro pellet really does its job. Body is pitch black. The head is just barely off white and skies up a few fingers with good retention and quite a bit of lacing. Each swirl creates three layers--black up to a mix of brownish-black bubbles and then the white head. Really pretty. From there, downhill. The nose brings some very light chocolate and roasted malt. It’s hiding in the background. Some light toffee as well. The flavor is a bit unappetizing. There’s too much toffee and not enough roast. The creaminess further enhances the toffee flavor. I think there’s probably a touch of diacetyl in there, but not too much. Mild roast that really doesn’t come through until the finish, which is too dry. Not a big fan of this one, other than looking at it. Serving type: nitro-bottle Reviewed on: 03-15-2011

Love. Dark color and think head. Dark coffee taste and smooth as silk. Good draft not good In carbonated can version. Looses flavor and body.

Poured a super dark black color with a tall tan head. Has a light drinkable roasted flavor.

11.2 oz Bottle at home. Beautiful black color with the most beautiful head in the world of beer. Downhill from there. Aroma is of chewing tobacco and coffee. Palate is very creamy from the nitro cartridge, but also very watered down, light bodied, and basically flavorless (for a stout). Very little hop character on the finish, and very little typical dry stout flavors. Macro, Macro, Macro, Macro.
