fidelis83 (709), Clinton, Iowa, USA Feb 24, 2009 Updated: Mar 28, 200916oz bottle. Pours black as night with a 2-3 finger creamy medium beige head that has excellent retention and leaves the best lacing I know of. Aroma is pretty weak, roast, ash, some cocoa, some stale coffee. Flavor is basically the same a little mare ash/char to the finish along with a slight bitterness. Palate is super milky smooth and creamy. Super fine carbonation bubbles seem to hold alot of the real beer back. A decent introduction to the style but certainly no figurehead stout. Papillon (172), Sudbury, Ontario, Canada Feb 20, 2009 Updated: Mar 17, 2009440 mL Nitro Can specifically labeled "draught". Anyone who has seen the Guinness commercial will know the real thing holds true to its advertised image. The glass looks like it’s getting filled with chocolate milk shake during the pour until the extra fine carbonation settles up into a beautiful creamy off-white head that clings thickly to the sides of the glass as it is sipped, hiding the surface from the top of the glass all the way to the end; the ultimate example of beauty in beer. Aroma is toasted malt and grains with a hint of coffee, a slight syrupiness to it and a slight tang that is fitting to a dark beer. The flavor (and a full flavor at that) is toasted malt with an aftertaste that is like good black coffee, yet not too overpowering. Smooth in the mouth, it holds to the tongue like a firm but velvet hand. Not a complicated beer but a benchmark for those who like dark beers with taste and character. A toast to my Irish ancestry. Those Irishers sure can make good beer! G for Goddess, G for Guinness bonfunck (149), Waasmunster, Belgium Feb 19, 2009 25cl from tap in de Backdoor @ Ghent coffee black with strong foam, nice roasted malt taste tasted light, a bit waterish . Hard to compare with other stouts and beers. It is what it is. You can drink this beer all night long. mnovacanes (48), Munster, Indiana, USA Feb 19, 2009 Appearance: deep brown to black; fairly clear; nice head
Aroma: light aromas of coffee and barley; fairly typical of style, just the watered down version
Flavor: Tantamount to the aroma, good style typicity but watered down version; I consider this a light beer in the stout category; good dry-coffee finish, but lacks complexity
JKJK (5), Norway does not count Feb 17, 2009 After starting drinking real stouts, this one have really lost its charm.
Watery feel, A distinct coffe aroma. Big white head who stays hangs on the glass wall until you’ve drank up. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Feb 17, 2009 Its the classic Guinness. You know how it pours, you know the aroma. It’s taste is thin and has that mild burnt malt taste, clean finish. Its tradition, little more than that though. trapez (766), Hilleroed, Denmark Feb 16, 2009 Sweet roasted malt and dark brown bread in aroma. Black with very soft beige head. Mild roasted malt with just a hint of black coffee. Mild mouthfeel. IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Feb 15, 2009 I am not actually leaving a comment, this is me opting out of that. However there are a minimum number of characters i must type so... You should all worship heavy metal!
