mcjay (301), Neenah, Wisconsin, USA Oct 11, 2008 Updated: Nov 20, 2008It’s Guinnuess, if you haven’t had it then shame on you. It’s best on tap at a good pub but if that’s not available to you then try the can over the bottle. Seriously just go try it if you haven’t. McGuinness Irish Pub in Appleton, WI serves the best pint in the fox cities area. Slipstream (734), USA Oct 7, 2008 I have been waiting a while to rate this classic, because I wanted to have it the right way - draft, in a Guinness glass, and served to me in an attractive Irish pub. All these conditions were met, and all that was missing this time was the shamrock stenciled onto the head. I can see that it is one of the most rated beers on Ratebeer, and rightly so. For a long time it was my favorite, but it has been surpassed in my affections. Classy black pour with a foamy head. Lacking in aroma. The flavor is mostly burnt toast with mild hops in the finish. Not very malty either. Pretty good, and still enjoyable from time to time (if only for nostalgia’s sake). There are heartier and tastier stouts available. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours a dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is largely nutty. Body is creamy but not thick. Flavor is nutty with malt notes but not strong or overpowering. Bitter undertones. lumpsowers (235), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Sep 30, 2008 16 oz. can. I love beer, but I can’t get down with Guinness, is something wrong with me? Looks beautiful, but I can’t get over how flat this brew is. Some horseradish or soy sauce flavors way down there...Thick and dark. JonnyDr (132), , South Yorkshire, England Sep 29, 2008 Well what colour do you think it is? Classic stiff ’moustaching’ head. Strong roasted barley flavour and with hops and yeast coming through. Malt finish. Lovely. noncaloric (602), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 28, 2008 Aroma: Roasted malts, muted by the dense head. Appearance: Mud-brown froth rolls with effervescence, finally settling down into a black body with a dense beige head. The head never fully dissipates, and fully coats the far side of the glass. Flavor: Molasses-like roast malts, not strong, nicely balanced by bitterness. Palate: Creamy-smooth, but not at all heavy. gax33 (11), Minooka, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2008 Nice taste - slightly dark roast coffee - esque, but it is just a bit watery. Love the creamy texture and it’s just so smooth throughout. A very easy beer to drink. WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Sep 25, 2008 On Tap. Ok the famous Guinness, well It looks real pretty in the glass all black and stuff, with that creamy head. A nice subtle roasted malt aroma. The flavor is a creamy chocolate, malt, maybe a little tobacco. All in all I thought this to be a good offering,I drank 3 , but there are much better stouts locally.
