bottle. Pours deep black with nitro head, off white, very slightly tan. Head sticks around for the entire time you drink it and is nice and creamy. Somewhat bitter malt aroma, light roast, kind of licorice aspect. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, with no carbonation. Flavor of bitter roast, slight coffee. It’s good, but seems to be overhyped. Overall it just doesn’t add up to be a beer I’d get very often, its actually almost watery in a way. I guess this makes it easy to chug, the way people like to drink it. Still, pretty good, and certainly a classic.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2010 A decent pass produced beer. It has a nice color and a wonderful light tan head. There is a bit of a heavy, malty aftertaste, and is not as creamy as I expected it to be.

I know this is a mass produced beer you can find just about anywhere but it’s the beer that got me into beer and I still love it.

Can with a widget, 1 year ago. Not utterly black, red highlights against the light. As in widget beers, the foam is a piece of art, dense as a cream. The aroma is not very strong, with roasty and coffee notes. Less bitter in taste than the bottled version, but fortunately fuller. I like it much more than the bottled one.

I love this beer. Creamy flavor; not too filling and great to look at. Loved it so much so I have a keg in the garage. I’m an IPA fan but drink this on a regular basis.

Delicious to drink, and not bad to look at either. One of the best mass-produced beers out there. Widely available on draft, especially at any Irish pubs/Irish-themed pubs.

(12oz bottle thanks to mar) jet black pour with creamy head and excellent lacing. Nose of cocoa, sweet bakers choc, and toasty raisin. Taste of dry cocoa, unsweet, chalky, very thin body, watery somewhat unflavorful linger.

When poured right, from tap, it’s hard to beat. The appearance alone makes my mouth water. A long standing favourit.
