A true classic, especially on draft. The aroma is a chocolate and some roast malt. The pour is dark practically opaque black with a thick light tan head, The taste is of chocolate and some coffee with deep malt character. Hops are only slightly present to counter the maltiness. The body is thick with a dry character and a smooth profile. Always a good pick.

Dry creamy feel. Subtle roasted malt aroma. Predominately pitch black but has some brown around the edge. Faint chalky feel. Rich tan head that leaves a handsome film on the glass. I can’t detect any negative characteristics. Clean finish with a mild tingle of sweetness occasionally. Although I’m not a fan of the Extra Stout version I do like this one very much.

Bottle/draft. Pours black with a nice large creamy head. Tastes smells of roasty, malty, bit cream smell. Nothing you can say about this that not everyone already knows great beer to have whenever.

The King of Stouts. I love this beer - in fact I have it on tap at home since to me that is the only way to really enjoy it. The midnight black color, the two fingers of creamy head, they get me ready to enjoy the surprisingly light first sip. The taste is slightly burnt, a little bitter but smooth. I can drink it everyday and I often do! Not fancy, pretentious or exotic, just a great beer that always makes me happy. Best on draft but you have to pour it right! Try it in Ireland or England and you will know what I mean (there are pubs in the USA that do know how to pour it, too, just ensure it takes two steps and you have to wait).

Didn’t realize I hadn’t rated this one yet... had this at a birthday party earlier in the evening, but didn’t take notes. Well, here goes: Aroma of bitter chocolate and light roasted malts. Appearance is dark brown/black with foamy mocha head. Flavor matches the nose, though my overall impression is that these flavors were quite muted. Palate was light and creamy. Mundane, but unoffensive. I’d drink it again if no better choices were available, but I don’t think I will pull any bills out of my wallet for it anytime soon.

440ml can. Pours milky grey but quickly turns very dark with a thick lasting head. Probably one of the nicest looking beers out there once it has settled. Strong smell of liquorice with quite a thin mouthfeel. The taste is bitter and refreshing. Sets the standard for all stouts.

Solid dark color with a lasting bitter taste; burnt toast with cream cheese. No one reading this is unfamiliar with this most accesable of classics. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Subdued aroma and flavor. Relatively simple flavors: peat and toasted barley. Appearance is quite nice, with fine light brown bubbles percolating into a fine-grained, persistent creamy head. However, this renders the beer itself to be relatively flat, with very little discernible carbonation on the palate. Finish is mildly bitter. Overall, low amplitude flavors and overall drinking experience; a disappointment. I attribute the hype over this beer is akin to an acquired taste to certain cuisines, eg. boiled corned beef and cabbage. Other less touted beers offer much more flavor and complexity than this one.
