As the first beer I ever had outside the "yellow booze water" category, it will always hold a special place in my heart and do beloved damage to my liver. There are definitely more intense and complex stouts out there, but I would not complain if I just had Guinness after Guinness lined up all day. This is one that doesn’t even really need to be on ratebeer because basically everyone of drinking age should have had one by now.

On tap at Pub Galway. Pours a dark brown with a thick creamy beige head that leaves nice and foamy lacing. Nose is of light roasted grains and char. Taste is lightly acidic and dry indeed with flavors of roasted grains but again really light. Body is light, carbonation moderate and mouthfeel watery. Overall I know this is a dry stout but I found it to be lacking a little body and taste to be considered really good.

Strom tap: deep dark, brown foam, frothy, smell and taste of burnt bread. Watery, creamy, bitter, would not drink this over hyped Irish brew again unless it is for at Patrick’s day

Can. Black with a slight reddish tinge. The soft and creamy head forms slowly as the nitrogen rises. Nose is oatmeal and raw grains. Very creamy light body. Some coffee and toffee, minus the sweetness. Earthy and dry. Nothing else like it. Finishes soft with a lingering roasty bitterness.

Ein Bild von einem Bier, ein Schaum wie Cappuccino. In der Nase Kaffee, im Trunk leider verwässerte Aromen, matt im Abgang. Wenig Nachgeschmack - hatte ich besser in Erinnerung.

This is the bottle version. Please note that the pour/tap version is quite a bit better, around a 3.5 or something. Dark black beer with a brown head. Slight aroma of chocolate malt. Creamy and dry in the back with a bit of alcohol. Finish of light alcohol as well as chocolate. Not nearly as balanced as the aroma. Much larger head when draft with better flavor. I’ll rate in between the 3.1 for the bottle and 3.7 for the draft.

14.2 oz. nitro can to shaker glass. It has that signature rolling nitro release tan head, deep reddish brown in color, very nice lacing and awesome head retention. Aroma of smoked malts. Taste is generally sweet, with just a touch of earthy English hop bitterness. Light bodied, light carbonation, creamy mouth feel though a little watery. Finishes rather dry. Tasting notes of coffee, burnt wood, tree nuts, toffee and chocolate. A classic yet too tame for my tastes.
