Looks amazing, but that's where it all ends for me. Count me in as one who finds this a highly overrated beer. Certainly has its place as a serious session beer and usually so cold (and watery) on tap that it hits the spot with pub fare. Points for appearance and widgets, points lost for nitrogen, over chilling, and bartenders who insist on making foam art in the head.

I used to be a staunch defender of Guinness. That was before I started drinking…er, rating heavily. While I still don’t think the description “brown sugar water” is quite accurate, I will agree that that today’s version is a “half-assed” attempt, thriving only on name recognition and its position in the American market as the alternative to A-B. Harsh ending, no real aroma, and not a great stout.

A light, flavorful, and passable no-brainer beer and a fail safe given wide availability. Fairly thin body with medium roast and light notable acidity. Somewhat lacking, but serviceable in a pinch.

Served from a can this was a sad imprersonation of a great beer.Thin and insipid, totally lacking in body the only good thing you say about it was that it was mildly refreshing on a warm summers night-but so is water.

A St. Patty's favorite, Guinness is a respectable stout, if overrated. No beer tops its black, frothy-headed appearance. However, this beer consistently lacks carbonation and complexity. A good choice when faced with Budweiser swill, but pales in comparison to American craft-brewed stouts.

December 2005 re-rate <P> At an irish Pub that had this and Smithwicks/Hoegaarden as the only choices I wanted to drink. I started with Guinness as it is my old love then went to Smithwicks and Hoegaarden. Guinness was far and away the least enjoyable. Flavor is almost confined strictly to the bitterness in the finish. Yes it still "feels" great palate wise, but the flavor is just very blah and I don’t see why i loved it so much. Guiiness will always get a perfect look and palate score for me. I just think it feels and looks the way a beer should. Truth be told though it has little flavor other than a bit of bitterness. But, the nostlagia factor and the fact that this is indeed a well crafted brew get it a high rank.
