2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MoritzF (7137) - Bochum, GERMANY - NOV 28, 2008
(44cl can, 4.2% abv) Almost black coloured hue with a short but dense and persistent beige creamy layer. Discreet aroma of roasted malt and shy hints of coffee and cacao. Moderately bitter flavour, light bodied with a soft, even a bit flat (nitro-)carbonation. Dry and slightly roasted malty taste with shy notes of coffee, cacao and licorice; dry and moderately bitter, but also a bit watery finish. Not one of my regular buys (28.XI.08).
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 bhensonb (7131) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 20, 2007
Bottle. Opened with a bubbly squeal of widget. Poured creamy brown/tan. Fine beige head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. It is a bit watery. The flavor is light roasted malt. There is a bit of bitter. The Bud of Ireland. Damn, but I wish the Bud of America was 1% this flavorful. Good to drink. Something of a session stout!
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 MesandSim (7108) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 3, 2007
A Mes rate:
Cask at the Junction Tavern. Guess I had to at some point didn’t I? No point doing notes. You all know the score. Palate makes it all the way.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Bov (7098) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - JAN 28, 2002
dark black colour, big legendary creamy head, black chocolate aroma, smooth, mildly bitter, slightly roasted, long dry and bitter aftertaste - probably the best of the most overrated beers in the world
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 chriso (7062) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 27, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2005 I was rather surprised when I realised I had never rated this. There is not much to choose between Guinness, Beamish & Murphys in my view. A reasonable standby when confronted with a pub that doesn’t have anything more interesting (which this was) but I rarely drink it these days in any other circumstances. Invariably served too cold to pick up much in the way of aroma or flavours, especially when there is such a push towards the "Extra Cold" version in UK pubs these days (presumably so that they don’t have to bother with the tiresome settling period). Smooth and easy drinking, with a dry finish, but unexceptional. Somehow, it always seems to taste better in Ireland. Draught, The Feathers, London SW1.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 pivnizub (7022) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - AUG 1, 2007
Can: Perfect "Guinness-head", tanned, lacing and extremely stable, deep amber coloured; solid dry dark-malty and roast-malty nose, light bodied, extremely smooth; moderate dry-bitter flavour; short dry, malty and really bitter finish with a roasted aftertaste. Very good for a "Irska Desitka"............
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 hopdog (6943) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 18, 2005
On tap. I had this one after drinking 3 Bells Kalamazoo Stouts with dinner. Poured a dark black with a larger sized head. Weaker aromas of chocolate and roasted malts. Lightly bitter finish.

BOTTLE. POURED A DARK COLOR WITH DARK LARGE HEAD. LOVE TO WATCH THE CASCADE. MEDIUM AROMA. FLAVOR WAS COMPLEX COMBINATION OF MALT, BARLEY AND SWEET FINISH. MORE FINISH AS IT WARMED.
