Pinte, Boul Noire. Pas aimé beaucoup. J'avais hâte de finir ma pinte. Un arrière goût qui ne me plaisait pas.

Fris aroma, kolenzwart uiterlijk. Dun van smaak ontwikkelt zich langzaam, warme afdronk.

Iím actually fairly surprised by the high ratings this beer has. I donít hate Guinness. In a bar serving only crappy macro beers, itís often my go-to sipper. (Mind you the older I get, the less time I spend in such bars.) Oh yeah, the beer. It looks great: jet black with that everlasting head. But everything about it is muted: the aroma, the taste - the carbonation.Thereís a bit of chocolate and coffee, roasted grain, and a finish just dry enough to make it sessionable. But compared to a big, bold craft stout (or even St-Ambroise), I donít see how Guinness can stack up.

Classic dry stout example and one of the first stouts I ever tried. Even though years have passed, and much better beers have been tried, Guinness is still a very pleasant session pub beer.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 13A). Can 44 cl - Batch L4133GE002. AROMA: roasted coffe like aroma with cocoa notes. some faint alcoholic aromas. low esters and very low hop aromas. APPEARANCE: jet black color and opaque with ruby highlights. thick slight tanned head with good retention. TASTE: roasted flavours with a coffee-like dry finish. some chocolate sweet flavour. medium-low bitterness and no hop flavours. PALATE: medium-light body with a creamy sensation. low carbonation and no astringency. OVERALL: a good and creamy dry stout that maybe would benefit from a little more hop bitterness.

Roasty malts in aroma, a bit of chocolate and coffee. Not too complex. Appearance: Guinness - no need to explain. No sweetness, very small bitterness. Extremely drinkable, very smooth and creamy, very low carbonation. This, for me (and for many other, Iím sure), is a definition of a dry stout. Perfect, session beer.

Caramel-roasty nose with a phenolic cough-drop overtones. Moderate sweetness, with a roasty bitter finish with a slight astringency. Creamy texture, a lightly flat and watery palate--might be a bit oxidized. Really, not as good as what many of our west coast craft breweries are doing now

Its Guiness. What so you say? Dark with beautiful creamy head. Low nose aromas with bitter roast flavours.
