Mr_Stitch (138), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 8, 2008 Yes again I give Guinness a perfect score, Draught not Extra Stout this time but none the less a Guinness with a perfect score. To me Guinness is what all other stouts strive to be. Smooth and refreshing with a nice clean aftertaste I can drink Guinness year round and be happy. Be it draught or extra stout these are my two all time favorite stouts and they deserve perfect scores from me. "That wonderful malty coffee aroma, the dark brown almost black color, and that smooth taste that you almost have to smoke after... to me it’s perfect. A pint of Guinness and a glass of Jameson’s 18 year and to me life doesn’t get any better." from my review of Guinness Extra, the same can be said here.
Slipstream (392), USA Oct 7, 2008 I have been waiting a while to rate this classic, because I wanted to have it the right way - draft, in a Guinness glass, and served to me in an attractive Irish pub. All these conditions were met, and all that was missing this time was the shamrock stenciled onto the head. I can see that it is one of the most rated beers on Ratebeer, and rightly so. For a long time it was my favorite, but it has been surpassed in my affections. Classy black pour with a foamy head. Lacking in aroma. The flavor is mostly burnt toast with mild hops in the finish. Not very malty either. Pretty good, and still enjoyable from time to time (if only for nostalgia’s sake). There are heartier and tastier stouts available. Tripplebrew (285), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours a dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is largely nutty. Body is creamy but not thick. Flavor is nutty with malt notes but not strong or overpowering. Bitter undertones. lumpsowers (87), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Sep 30, 2008 16 oz. can. I love beer, but I can’t get down with Guinness, is something wrong with me? Looks beautiful, but I can’t get over how flat this brew is. Some horseradish or soy sauce flavors way down there...Thick and dark. JonnyDr (112), , South Yorkshire, England Sep 29, 2008 Well what colour do you think it is? Classic stiff ’moustaching’ head. Strong roasted barley flavour and with hops and yeast coming through. Malt finish. Lovely. noncaloric (111), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 28, 2008 Aroma: Roasted malts, muted by the dense head. Appearance: Mud-brown froth rolls with effervescence, finally settling down into a black body with a dense beige head. The head never fully dissipates, and fully coats the far side of the glass. Flavor: Molasses-like roast malts, not strong, nicely balanced by bitterness. Palate: Creamy-smooth, but not at all heavy.
