3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 16, 2008 My first Guinness was a horrid bottled beer many years ago. Today’s version with the “widget” delivering something resembling a hand-pulled mouthfeel is a great improvement. The Draught cans still have a somewhat “fizzier” head than a draft pull, but at least the head is creamy and plays well with the roasty beer body. For sure, Guinness has become an American mega-brew, and craft brews surpass it in taste, but it’s still a fine session beer and an alternative to a horse-p*** pilsner.
Revision note: Oh yeah, good smoked peat taste in my latest can. Acidic, too. I’ve based my ratings on the pint “pub draught” cans that have been in my beer fridge for over two years now (one left), and it seems to have aged pretty well.

black beer. nice appearance, very very dark color, aroma not so nice smells a bit like lemons with pinch of vanilla whereas one would expect some roasted smell. medium bitterness, thick creamy head, bit watery.

I think Guinness tastes better from tap. Whenever I get a can of this stuff, its not that great.

11.2-ounce bottles in a pint glass. Tried out both this and Guinness Extra Stout side-by-side for a good comparison. Draught was a little lighter in aroma and feel, and had a little less flavor as well. Not bad at all, but I do prefer the Extra Stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Un beau dry stout équilibré, avec un nez élégant et typé et une bouche ample et crémeuse mais qui garde un coté digeste et équilibré.

Can. Black liquid, tan creamy head. Only nice thing about this beer is appearance. Aroma of lemon, instant coffee. Taste is medium sour with only a tin of bitterness and/or sweetness. Watery. Not good.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had many times before, finally rating. Had it on tap at James St. Pub in Ottawa. Always comes with a generous amount of thick creamy head. Very dark black appearance. Flavours are of burnt roasted malts, dark coffee grinds. Hints of caramel and vanilla in the aroma. Even once a bit lukewarm, still quite tasty, just as good as chilled. Much better on tap than in a tallboy.

330 ml bottle. Pours black colour. Tan head. Aroma of roasted barley, bread crust, smoke, burnt grain. Taste is the same. Thin body. Watery palate. Some roasted bitterness detected. Well, nothing special. Expected more from this beer.
