A smooth taste and dark color with a wonderful long feeling of Ireland and especially from Navan. This is my favorit stout.

0.33l bottle (4.1% abv). Pours a near black body with a big bubbly tanned head. Served it quite cold but aroma is sweet roasted chocolate malts, weak espresso and lightly soapy. Lively carbonated and a really thin and watery body. Tastes OK with roasted flavors, hints of coffee and a slightly sour note hidden in there. Ends slightly dry. The body is way to thin to make this really interesting, but nice enough I suppose.

Dark black color with a slightly tan head that leaves little lacing. Burnt and roasted grains. Some dried dark fruit. Sweetly bitter taste. Big hop bitterness. Bitter aftertaste. Little bit of a sweetness. Nicely done St. James Gate.

Bottle 33cl. A dark beer with good head. Nose is on roasted malt. Aroma is dry with nice dark chocolate notes, slightly licorice aroma, easy drinkable, bit watery and astringent at the finish but pleasant.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2011 Bottle. Clear ruby red to black with a beige unstabile head. Decent lacings. Aroma is burnt malty with a bit sour stale dirty water note and some faint coffee and bitter chocolate notes. Taste is burnt bitter and a bit sourish and dirty watery with some chocolate that saves it from disaster. A bit weak body and stale sourish mouthfeel with small sharp bubbles. I like it a bit more this try, but still pretty boring and harsh.

A 1983 veteran!!! Still quite well carbonated. Mild smoky tones with a crisp malt and a subtle chocolate tone. Surprisingly good and has survived remarkably well.
