Bottle. This is the one without the Nitrogen capule, and it is quite evident on the head, which is lighter, a lot more patchy, and disappear extremely sooner than the version with nitrogen. The aroma is about the same: caffee, chocolate, karamel and burnt malt. The color is dark mahogny to silky black. Some hops in the aroma. This beer has a somewhat watery mouthfeel, and it has a CO2 bite. I think there are some earthy hints in it. I believe that the brewery can do better than this, in particular for a beer with its reputation.

Pours a dark almost completely black, topped with a decent beige colored head. Moderate roasted malt aroma, some coffee present. Taste starts a bit sweet and roasty, some bitterness and coffee wit ha bit of soury feel in the finish. Perfectly nice - a classic.

Bottle. Pours a near-black deep brown body with a medium creamy off-white head. Nose is licorice, mild coffee, brown bread, leather and hints of grains and nuts. Taste is brown bread, chocolate, mild coffee and hints of nuts and biscuits. Light body, medium to soft carbonation. Quite nice, and much tastier than the regular version - somewhat surprising, considering the apparently small differences between them.

Bottle shared at home. Almost black with small beige head. Lots of roasted malts, licorice, rubber, dried apple, some ash, light herbs, herval tea and green vegetables. Barely any sweetness with light to medium roasted bitterness. Light to medium bodied.

Svart med høyt lys brunt skum. Lukter kokte grønnsaker, sjokolade og kakao. Lett.

Black beer, brown head. Bready, malty nose with some roast and licorice, smoke. Taste is pretty close to the nose, but with more bready malts and roast. Simple, but decent.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2015 Seemingly inscrutable black but actually brown against the light. Medium head with low retention. Almonds, bread and toast in the nose. Toast predominates in the taste.
