jdjuice (202), Japan Feb 20, 2007 This is a Japanese Bottle, labeled as ’Extra Stout’, but it appears to be manufactured by Sapporo. Anyway, pours black with non-widgety normal head brown colored head. Smells like some kind of Japanese food, can’t put my finger on it, maybe something that has noodles. Flavor is nearly nonexistent until the finish, which is slightly bitter strong coffee. The harshness of the flavor coupled with the excessive carbonation make the beer one of the least smooth stouts I’ve tasted. Real Guinness ain’t half bad, I don’t understand why Guinness thinks its a good idea to outsource its brewing to crappy local brewers. Booo.
DruncanVeasey (1633), Burbage, Leicestershire, England Aug 30, 2008 Balcony, Lourdas. Reflective glossy tar pour like a black mirror. Tint of brown against the midday sun. A very black beer generously collared with tan. Nose sweet heady molasses, iron, blackcurrant, liquorice and sticky dried fruit, as well as the expected espresso and bitter cocoa attack. Markedly roastier and more impressively bitter than the nitrogenated, widgetised, super-chilled stuff back home. Sticks around with some serious burnt toast and black coffee bitterness long after the swallow. Fudgy creaminess, high cocoa dark choc, even an occasional waft of xmas pudding. Light and refreshing in the heat, but hinting at the presence of a darker, stronger beer. Original and Foreign Extra tipped together. Tastes like Guinness did to me when I was 14. Bitter enough to make girls and the unenlightened wince. Hats off. Nekronos (1901), Xalapa, Mexico Aug 19, 2008 A lot of things can paople say about GUinness but this one even room temperature is nice. I liked it and drank it ’till the bottom. Wim (758), Turnhout, Belgium Aug 14, 2008 black coloured body with a off white head a roasted malty grainy aroma a roasted malty grainy taste with a grainy bitter finish BuckeyeBoy (1130), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 11, 2008 Bottle Pours out a very dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. A big thanks to my Brother in-law for picking this up for me. Yves (423), Beerse, Belgium Aug 6, 2008 Black coloured beer with small off-white head and lots of carbonation. Malty roasted aroma. Full palate. Finish is bitter coffee mucca like.
