COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Labatt’s brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor’s Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Much more enjoyable than the horrid nitro’d beers that round out the Guinness stable. Nice roasted character with a substantial bitterness in the middle and finish. Full bodied compared to other Guinness products. Not bad at all.

A nice roasted aroma, but would have liked it to be a little more intense. Great color and body. Flavor is good, but a little on the bitter side in the aftertaste. A solid beer worth drinking.

Smooth beer with nice flavor. Not as thick as I like a stout to be but definitely a keeper. Goes great with a big fat steak.

A deep, bitter stout that comes with a decent head. Since everyone knows this beer, I won’t ramble on. OK.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2006 100% blind rating. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (not opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, molasses, husks), trace hops (herbs), with a light note of black tea. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. The only way to fairly rate Guinness is blindly; there is simply too much negative and positive bias, hype, etc. to rate this if you know what you’re drinking.

Far above and beyond the draught can I had. Dark, thick, and strong-flavored with coffee/mocha. An excellent stout and easily one of my favorite dark beers ever.

Mild coffee scent. Deep chestnut colour, big caramel head. Roasted bitter taste.(Yum) A bit oily, good mouthfeel, silky finish. Very good.

Quite stouty. A good beer, I think I’ll have some more.

Everyone knows Guinness, so I post this simply for point of reference. Not at all complex, Guinness is a bitter watery tar with nice mouthfeel. It’s too one note and way too filling to be my everyday beer though. Bitter without being hoppy and malty without being sweet. In other words flavorful without having much taste.

I don’t think it is as good as the draught can, but is still a very good beer.
