COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Labatt’s brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor’s Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Not as rich I would like it but well creamy. A lil toastedness to the bite like a pleasant burnt coffee taste. Nice head. surprisingly watery mouthfeel but thick when swirled. Nice chocolaty nuttiness.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 4/24/2014. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit, light char, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit, light char, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toast, dark bread, light char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice dry stout. All around good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Drank with some birthday stout cupcakes. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of light toast. Light coffee. Tastes slightly tangy. Medium light body, medium high carb.

What else can I say about Guinness that hasn’t been said. Aroma is faint, toasty beans and some coffee. Nice ebony with creamy head. Chocolate malt and toffee with a nice bitterness on the end. Prefer sweeter stouts... But good.

Transfer from BA review on 9-28-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a deep-deep brown nearly black color. Upon pouring there is a huge tan head that has quite good persistence. The head fades slowly over time to give a great level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of roasted coffee and some dark chocolate with notes of a lighter caramel and vanilla sweetness. Rather nice. Taste – The taste starts out of a good balance between a roasted malt and coffee flavor as well as a lighter caramel sweetness. Some light vanilla comes to the tongue, but overall the sweetness lessens as the taste goes on. Toward the end the roastier flavors begin coming more and more pronounced with the sweet fading more and more. In the end a slightly bitter roasted flavor is left on the tongue. While not bad, the aftertaste is a little too biting and the transitions a little too abrupt/harsh. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side with the carbonation level quite average as well. For the roastier flavors a thicker and creamier body would have been better. Also while not unpleasant a lighter carbonation would have helped for the darker roastier flavors as well. Overall - The beer overall looks and smells great, and initially tastes fantastic. The very bitey aftertaste and the somewhat un-flattering mouthfeel however bring it down. Overall it is not bad, but not fantastic either. If looking for a Guinness I would go for their nitro driven draught as it flavor transitions and feels much better. But this is worth the try.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a snifter. The lacing just clings longer in the snifter. The rest of the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. The smell was roasty coffee with a light chocolate underneath. The taste was roasty and sweet through the chocolate and coffee blend. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there but stayed slightly in the background. Overall, good foreign export stout worthy of having again.

Aroma of roasted malts and grains. A little more toasty than regular Guinness. Nice chocolate and malt flavors. Robust but can’t hold a candle to Russian stouts.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2014 Good, sturdy, reliable beer with full flavors of dark, roasted malts. Long bitter finish and aftertaste. According to label: "Brewed and bottled by Guinness Brewing Company, New Brunswick, Canada".

Thick head with plenty of lacing. Dark and rich brown color. Smooth mouth feel that hangs at the back of your mouth. Rich molasses taste. This beer is a little too rich for my tastes.

Poured jet black with khaki to white head. Dark roasted coffee and chocolate aroma and taste. One of my favorite widely produced beers.
