COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

smooth mouth feel, leaves a dry resin on the tongue ( but its mild and good). Sweet molasses and sweet coffee aroma. no alcohol taste. great lacing and character. Best Guinness i’ve had. good for a mass produced brew. Don’t be intimidated by the color or style, its tame. Try it.

Sweet hoppy Aroma. Dark dark brown. Pretty light bodied with higher carbonation. Taste is hoppy bitter, lots of roasted malt, Sweet. A little eh.

I’m really just not a Guinness fan. If I want a stout, I want something thick and black and not watery. But it is famous. I hear it drinks best in Ireland.

GIJOE (126) - Monterey, California, USA - APR 29, 2013
Dark brown with a moderate tan head. Aroma is malt with a metallic hint that comes through in the flavor as well. Flavor is malty sweetness with a kick of astringent bitterness that is surprising at first but grows on me. Medium body, lively carbonation. Not bad, but not what I expect from a stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Guinness is a very dark brown almost black looking in appearance. It gives off rich smells of licorice. It is a very filling beer but it is pretty strong. I am not a big fan of the beer.

Bottle poured in pint glass. Dark brown nearly black with a light khaki finger head. Too cold to get a proper nose. Taste is mostly roasted malt with a hint of espresso. Unremarkable. Decent but wouldn't seek it out.

12 oz. bottle from Root Cellar. Pours a deep brown, mostly opaque, with a small beige head that settles into an uneven film and leaves a few streaks of lace. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, walnuts, toffee, and banana bread. Flavor of dark chocolate, roasted malts, earth, nuts, and cola. Light-bodied, with a dry, roasty mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Bitter finish. A little metallic note in both flavor and aroma. A little disappointing. I’d take a regular Guinness.

20 year old bottle. Dark brown, clear, off white head. Bready malt with chocolate, light roast, nutty. The roast is greatly diminished in this old bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 26, 2013 Pours very dark brown, half finger thick khaki head nice lacing. Roast malt, earthy floral hop, very faint bitter sweet chocolate and coffee, a bit of toffee on the nose . Taste is big roast malt, slight earthy hop bitterness, toffee, and the slightest hint of dark chocolate and coffee. Roast malt dominates throughout. Medium body, low carbonation, dry finish. Overall good, wouldn?t seek it out, but worth drinking in the Ides of march.
