Quake1028 (625), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 17, 2008 12oz bottle in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, even though this is brewed far away from Ireland. Very dark brown or black pour with a massive tan head. At least 3 fingers thick with incredible retention and some very nice lacing. Nose of dry malts, chocolate, coffee, roasted grains and some molasses. Also get some tangy fruit esters at the very end of a big whiff. Fore is astringent roasted malts, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds and molasses. Tangy fruit notes build up in the back of the throat and throughout the finish. Light to medium bodied, perfect for the style. Astringency builds and dries out the palate as more of the beer is consumed. Roasted malts and chocolate dominate the finish. A nice bitterness becomes apparent as well. Good stuff.
Avatar (62), Gliwice, Poland Jul 16, 2008 Bottle. I’m not sure if it’s this version though. I bought it in San Diego, US. But it’s imported by DIAGEO from Canada. And another ’but’: on label it’ writen that it’s produced by Guinness Brewing Company in New Brunswick, Canada - not London. I’m confused with all those versions, can someone help? jake65 (1185), Meridian, Idaho, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle: Pours a deep brown with a large, frothy tan head. Nose is rather hoppy with light cocoa and some roastiness. Tastes more roasty and dark chocolate based. Some light bitters with plenty of roastiness and a little molasses. Thinner on the body, but a decent brew. carruthm (316), USA Jul 2, 2008 Dry is right. They took the parts of Guinness Draught that I liked and subdued them here. rayOfBeer (196), El Cerrito, California, USA Jul 2, 2008 Poured from 12oz bottle a dark brown black with a large frothy tan head that left blotchy legs as the foam receded. Nose of a tart roast grain rises through the foam. The flavor goes much the same with a mild tartness leading to a roasted smooth grain with a touch of ash or smokiness, coffee, and a very light caramel without any sweetness. The palate is dry, tart, and mildly bitter. A sipping beer to be sure but easy to drink. oteyj (275), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jun 30, 2008 Pours black with one finger tan head. Aromas of roasted malt and a dash of hops. not too complex, but it goes down easy. Roasty and relatively flavorful. Good if its the only thing available, but otherwise I shy away.
