Commercial Description:
The basis is an unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract shipped from Dublin, which is added to local ingredients and brewed locally. The abv may vary.

There is also another Guinness FES at 6.5% alcohol, brewed in Kenya, by Kenyan Breweries Ltd.

Editor's Note: Not sure at what point this went from 7.5% (the standard FES) to 6.5%. This entry is for Jamaican and the Kenyan FES' only - we don't know of any others at 6.5% but if you see one let us know.

Bottled. Pours a epitomical Guinness black with a perfect dark brown head that lasts and lasts. Aroma was sour, I mean really sour (yeah I know they use a sour mash but this was intense) with some moderate roastiness and a bit of earthy hops. Flavor, was much less sour which allowed the roastiness and chalky bitterness come through more. A bit of hops was perceived though mostly hop bitterness. Finishes very dry and chalky. Body was thicker than draught Guinness but could have been a bit higher but carbonatioin was perfect. Best thing from Guinness I’ve had, but nothing too special.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, Jerc, Mabel, and GregClow, courtesy of Blankboy. Slightly roasty, sweet aroma. Black, hardly any head. Sour but in a good way - sour and roasty together make for a tasty offering. Tangy, especially in finish. Good, different.

[1520-20080711] 275mL bottle. Candied figs and caramelized evergreen-esque molasses aroma. Hazy, dark brown red-hued body with a quick tan foam. Syrupy molasses and toast malt flavour has a little sourness. Medium-full body. Interesting to try but it’s not to my liking, and as someone put it: "it tastes like lemons... it’s gross!"

300 ml bottle from garthicus; Thanks Al; says "BREWED UNDER LICENCE IN KENYA BY KENYA BREWERIES"; Nose of oats; burnt malt, light molasses, and a roasty molassesy note. Black with a big, glass-lacing tan head; Flavor has pepperiness, raosted coffee, chocolate, and mild hop bitterness: Better than the NA version but not as good as the Irish FES!

Bottle (275ml), Jamaican version. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a large diminishing frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and llightly burnt caramel or toffee. Flavour’s quite roasty and dry with a hint of "bottle", some toffee and hops -- a bit of a burnt quality to it too. Medium bodied. Significantly different then the Guinness we get here and pretty good stuff.

2008-07-11. Black body with a good sized brown head that fades. Quite sweet at first, interesting character to the malty roast in the aroma. Flavour is oddly tangy, touch of sourness in the flavour? Sweet malt undertones. (6+) Average palate. Okay.Jamaican Version. Bottle shared by Blankboy

"Of the non-sorghum Guinnei..." - GregClow
