HogTownHarry (3129), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 27, 2008 Bottle (330ml). The Kenyan version - courtesy of garthicus - muchas gracias, Al!!!. Rating #2800. Oily opaque essentially black pour with a large lasting fluffy mottled tan/beige lasting head, nice curtains of lace. Lovely thick molasses/nutoil heavily roasted malt aroma, reasonably sweet, but also somewhat dry ... I get strong turkish coffee with hints of hazelnut and cream. The taste has light coffee and cream, nutshell, herbal/mint hop bitterness; a little sweet. Creamy, somewhat frothy mouthfeel, somewhat reminiscent of a frappachino - quick finish and a light mocha aftertaste. I quite liked it!
checkmatei1 (198), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle on Honeymoon in Jamaica: Poured a black color with a tan head. Aroma was roasted chocolate malts with hints of coffee. The flavor was bitter, malty with hints of chocolate, caramel and coffee. The roasted malts stand out strong. Overall, a tasty brew. gotohelunc (310), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 9, 2008 Bottle in St. Lucia. I like this one a lot more than the "standard" Guinness you typically see in the US. Black with a soft, tan head. Rich malty aroma with coffee and smokiness. Tastes are dark chocolate, fruit, and coffee. Very smooth and easy to drink. Leaves the mouth sticky. GregClow (2285), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 31, 2008 Bottle (Jamaican version) courtesy of biegaman - many thanks, Jan! Deep, deep brown (almost black) with a large tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, molasses, charred coffee beans, and something that I couldn’t quite place, but that reminded me a bit of roasted banana. Body is a touch lighter than expected, but still fairly full. Flavour starts fairly sweet, with the expected coffee and chocolate notes, but then an interesting dry/sour character comes through, reminding me that I’m drinking a Guinness, albeit a much stronger one than usual. A nice treat. DownsouthGav (598), Greater London, England Apr 22, 2008 Bottle (Jamaican version). A drink very familiar to me. Aroma is very pungent, with roasted malts dominating the chocolate and coffee notes. Pours a thick black beer with a beige head. Taste is malty, with hops and chocolate predominant. Very tasty and perfect for a summer’s day by the bbq. daknole (492), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2008 I brought a few of these back from a trip to Jamaica in 2006. I really enjoyed the malty flavor and sweetness. Good coffee and chocolate flavor. Much different than the Guinness most are used to. Pretty srong beer. The natives kept telling me: "it will put lead in your pencil"...not so sure about that one...LOL.
