COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The basis is an unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract shipped from Dublin, which is added to local ingredients and brewed locally. The abv may vary.

There is also another Guinness FES at 6.5% alcohol, brewed in Kenya, by Kenyan Breweries Ltd.

Editor's Note: Not sure at what point this went from 7.5% (the standard FES) to 6.5%. This entry is for Jamaican and the Kenyan FES' only - we don't know of any others at 6.5% but if you see one let us know.

Bottle in Jamaica. Nice strong beer with lots of coffee aroma. There was a roasted coffee taste with chocolate notes. balanced nice by hops. Contrasting sweet and bitter flavors added a complex taste. very similar to the US extra, but different.

11.2oz bottle drank from the bottle. Pretty much regular Foreign Extra with something slightly sour and a little more hops. I would drink it again though given the chance. Much better than the free Red Stripe at the resort.

Bottle: Poured a black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate with some lactose notes are quite interesting and different then the aroma of the regular version. Taste is also dominated by loads of black chocolate notes with some sweet undertones with lactose notes. Body is thinner then I would have expected with some good carbonation. Enjoyable in the sense that there is not much else to drink that is somewhat interesting in Kenya.

Bottled, Jamaican. Poured medium-deep brown with a nice, sticky beige head. The aroma picked up sweet molasses and licorice notes with some vanilla bean and lightly-smoked malts too.. sweet and welcoming. The flavor found a mess of burnt dark sweetness at the core.. sharp oxidation cut through and rode out the finish along with nondescript bitterness.. ugly in the end. Medium-bodied with poor sweet/sharp interplay on the palate.. seemed past its prime.

50cl bottle brewed in Kenya. Pours a lightly viscous, opaque black with a creamy, slightly thick beige head. Doesn’t look like your typical Guinness. Nose is mostly roasted barley, a little hay, some light grass, brown bread, a little licorice. Flavor is big, heavy licorice, very malty, sweet, molasses, roasted barley, dark toast, a little hay, chocolate. Full bodied, sweet, sticky finish.

500 ml bottle in Kenya in my hotel room. What Jamaica and Kenya have in common but here goes. Pours an almost black color with a full tan head. Aroma is roasted caramel and malt. Taste is much the same with some smoke as well. Palate is smooth and ends somewhat bitter. Not bad.
