The basis is an unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract shipped from Dublin, which is added to local pale malt ingredients and brewed locally. The Malaysian version has in recent years seen an ABV downgrade to 6.8%.

The FES currently (2010) found in Hong Kong is the Malaysian version, as is the FES found in Cambodia.

As of 2011, this is the version now found in the People’s Republic of China, which formerly had a 5% version. That version no longer exists, so Chinese FES ratings should go here.

The head is brown and ok, the body black. It smells fruity, fermented fruity, strong, bit plum. The taste is plum, alcoholic, creamy, bit coffee, sweet. Not as good as the most other Guinness beers, but drinkable.

Der höhere Alkoholgehalt gegenüber dem Original macht sich bemerkbar. Das Bier schmeckt dadurcht etwas trocken und "pelzig". Ansonsten wie das Original.

Very nice dark appearance. Bigger hints of coffee and roasted barley than draught Guinness

320ml can purchased in siem reap, Cambodia. Pours extremely dark, opaque black with no head. Aroma is wet socks and cardboard. Taste is metallic, lots of burnt toast and licorice in after taste but lots of wet cardboard. I really don’t like it.

Smell of roasted malt, vanilla. Dark brown colour, high dark browns head. Very bitter taste. Aroma of licorice, some coffee and roasted malt. Soft but plentiful carbon, oily texture, very full body.

320ml can. Caramel in the nose. The beer starts smooth, fresh. Figs, dates, brown sugar. The beer is getting more deep and intense in the mainpart, not too thick, still nice drinkable without being watery. The aftertaste is long, malty-liquorice, dried plums with a nice smooth-bitter ending. Nice!

Dark near black pour with ring of good tan head. Big rich chocolatey and roast and marshmallows. Pretty damn good actually. I would love to drink this if I was traveling in Malaysia!

Can from a 7/11 in Kl. It pours black with a thick beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, roasty, acidity, cheap coffee, scorched earth and rubbing alcohol. The taste is bitter, earth, harsh roast, light burnt notes, some acidity, astringent notes, peppery spice and instant coffee with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Can’t say I’m a fan. A bit acidic and astringent.
