2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 DeanF (1489) - Iqaluit, - JAN 28, 2012
Wow - I did not even know there were so many variations of this brew! This is the Hong Kong verion, 6.8% alcohol and found in large 640ml bottles ubiquitous at local 7-11s. Has a decent dark body with good head, Sugary sweet stout aroma like a fake macro stout, but that’s better than a fake macro lager. Flavour is a lot of sweetness and maltiness with nary a hop or a dry finish to be found. Very sweet and sugary; needs balance. Right now it’s just coffee-flavoured alcoholic syrup, which works well enough sometimes, but only then. Sometimes.

33cl can from a Minimart in Phnom Penh. Drank it on the bus to Siem Reap.
Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with caramel and hint of liquorice. Some burnt aromas too? Pretty sweet and malty with some bitterness. Quite well balanced and very drinkable. Nice foreign stout! (2012-05-01)

from a long neck bottle in the santubong fishing village in borneo, with an array of local seafood. rich black with a thin light brown head; warmed quite quickly out on the balcony and revealed quite a pleasant aroma of dates, molasses and tar; plenty of burnt bitterness and lightly dry lactic sourness; was quite a welcome change from pale lagers

A very very bland foreign stout. I was at a bar in Phnom Penh with my dad and for the first time in my life he said he wanted to try a beer... he likes chocolate so this was the only thing they had I could recommend... yeah he hasn’t had a beer since. There’s nothing terribly wrong with it, but it just can’t compare to the good stuff.

Can from 7 -11 Kuala Lumpur . Pours almost black with tan head . aroma is coffee and toasted malts . taste is very sweet to start with a more bitter roasted coffee finish with some caramel . A slight alcohol warmth detected . good body , medium carbonation . Doesn’t resemble Dublin Guinness but quite a tasty nightcap

Bottle in Cambodia. 6.8%, brewed in Malaysia. Medium tan head, black body with a red hue. Strong as hell, really hits you. Roast barley, heaps of malt, masses of alcohol, masses of red fruit, cherries, christmas. As it warms up aniseed, liquorice, kola nut notes come through. Very sweet but with a huge tart alcoholic bite. Long sweet finish. Warming. Full bodied as hell. Can drink regular FES quite easily, but not this. This one seems stronger, even though it isn’t.
