Thin looking deep brown pour with a tan bubbly film for head. The aroma is odd with a flowery/herbal soapy character. Not much malt comes through in the nose. The flavor is mildy perfumy, with hardly any roast character. There’s some evidence of tart-spices, with no trace of roast in the finish neither. A bit strange, and lacks character, IMHO. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 3, 2007 Poured a copper-brown color with a tan head. The aroma was chocolatey and very fruity with some raisin notes. Mild notes of alcohol. The flavor is light with esters and an odd fruit taste. Maybe that is the sorghum I don’t know. Chocolate and roasty finish. The malt ran short in the flavor. yalnikim (781), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Tasted 30/10/2007. 330ml bottle from Regionals. Black, effervescent, with a light-tan disappearing head. Berry-like esters and roast barley dominate the nose the nose, and both contribute to an overall subtle sourness which continues through to the mouth. Sweet espresso flavour, with a background woody note and a quite well-hidden alcohol. Finish has a pronounced toast and a lingering bittersweet character, which invites more drinking. Interestingly, this beer reminded me quite a lot of Pink Elephant’s Trumpet - a totaly different beer. Gets a lot better, and more drinkable, as it breathes and vents off some of that CO2. Good drop, more interesting and complex than the other FES’s I’ve tried but probably not as sessionable. The packaging would be near-perfect, if not for the embossed bottle (I really hate these - for want of a better word, they are "dicky").

Comments: Weird, very sweet and rather sour flavour profile with flour, plum pudding + powdery AND vinous blackberry notes.

My quest to try every available version of Guinness continues! Pours a deep brown with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma - whoa, that’s weird! A very slight roastiness, some dark fruit, and a lot of something that I have no idea what it is - must be the sorghum. Fairly full mouthfeel. Flavour has some coffee and chocolate, and that same weird something from the aroma. A very interesting beer - I didn’t totally love it, but I’m glad I had a chance to try it. alari (30), London, Greater London, England

Viciously strong and heavy - one of the 610ml bottles can be a bit much. Strange acid sour aftertaste which takes some time to get into but is worthwhile. Good medium carbonation. Maybe a little OTT - could use a touch more subtlety. tupalev (2616), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Pitch black, good sized bubbly brown head. Great taste - rich sweetness, alcohol present, neat richness to the overall package. Roof of your mouth tingly hops/sweetness. Good stuff, would have no idea it was Guinness, just tastes like a sweet foreign stout. oteyj (757), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2007 Pours black with large frothy head. Aromas of caramel, coffee, hops, chocolate, malt. Very pronounced. Flavours of caramel, roasted malt, coffee, fruit, and hops. Not as bitter as other Guinness stouts. Definitely a winner.
