People often ask me if the best Guinness is from Dublin. I’m sorry to say that it’s actually found in Nigeria. alaskanwarren (286), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 14, 2007 Pours nearly opaque, deep dark brown with brownish head. Aroma is plumb, chocolate, malty, hints of alcohol, tobacco, green grapes. Flavor is initially pretty sour, then oaky, roasted malt, lots of lacto vibes still. More like la folie than guinness, still getting some apples, coffee, dark chocolate (the dark chocolate that’s like 85% cocoa - that’s more astringent and not creamy at all). Long after the finish, as the taste is leaving the tongue all together I think "hey, there’s that guinness flavor!" Much thanks to Doppelganger for the bottle. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Courtesy boboski. Pours oily black with pretty much no head. Light tan bubbles hug the edge of the glass. Right away the smell reminds me of Worldwide Stout. Thick, sweet, malty, with chocolate and roast. The taste has kind of a bitter sweetness to it that kind of left an unpleasant taste in the mouth. It had a lot of dark fruit, and some chocolate and roast to it, but it was hard to get past that bitterness. A little bit interesting, but not a great stout. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 16, 2007 Very dark brown pour, almost black. Only a resemblance of a tan, foamy head forms atop an oily body. Looks creamy and viscous. The aroma is super-sweet but not cloying. At least half of the nose is comprised of sorghum(molasses), followed in quantity by roasted malts, raisins, toffee, caramel and cream. Alcohol is noted. Interesting and reasonably traditional nose. Flavor loses focus and introduces additions of heavy, milky and grainy sorghum, tar, a soy sauce reduction and salt. Bitter chocolate notes seem to cover rotting dark fruits. Sweetness is high and becomes very cloying. It’s certainly captivating and unique but it has no alluring qualities and no desire to drink away comes with it. Bitterness is medium, acidity is low/mild. The finish is overly sweet and roasty with a traditional English feel about it, very harsh and foody. Palate is medium-full, cloying and not really any fun. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2007 Courtesy boboski via dsnowden. Black/dark brown with brown edges and just a bit of off white foam on top. Nose of roasted dark chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, hints of vinegar. Same flavor. Medium body, balanced carbonation. Solid foreign stout. johndoughty (2156), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Dark as you would expect and bit of a gentle giant being very easy to drink for its strength. I have been going through bit of a poor spell trying so fairly average beers but this broke the run.
More bitter than the Belgian version and very refreshing. cgarvieuk (4178), Edinburgh, Scotland
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 7, 2007 Bottle at home, Compaired along side Special export Belgian. There definitly different beers... Loved the Statement on bottle. Imported from Nigeria for that special flavour... Deep red/black ... Fruity cherries hint of carnation milk in nose ... less body than Special export Belgian ... much more fruity ... cherrys ... little smokey ... little caramalised malt. dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2007 Black with a brown 2-finger head, with a lasting (really, lasting the whole time) cap that laced considerably. Aroma is dark fruits, burnt toast, a bit of graininess. Some deep chocolate notes, roasted nuts, and a nice subtle fruity sweetness. A bit of alcohol up front in the taste, with a weird tart/sweet interplay on the sides of the palate. No real chocolate or roast malt presence until the aftertaste, where it comes out in a nice bitterness that fades to a fleeting dark chocolate character. There is a definite acidic and interestingly dry character that pervades throughout here. High carbonation, with a nice thickness that however doesn’t approach that divinely creamy character.
