alaskanwarren (269), Edgewater, Colorado, USA Jul 14, 2007 Pours nearly opaque, deep dark brown with brownish head. Aroma is plumb, chocolate, malty, hints of alcohol, tobacco, green grapes. Flavor is initially pretty sour, then oaky, roasted malt, lots of lacto vibes still. More like la folie than guinness, still getting some apples, coffee, dark chocolate (the dark chocolate that’s like 85% cocoa - that’s more astringent and not creamy at all). Long after the finish, as the taste is leaving the tongue all together I think "hey, there’s that guinness flavor!" Much thanks to Doppelganger for the bottle.
thewolf (3392), Kolding, Denmark Jul 14, 2008 Bottle, bought in a corner shop in Vienna.
Pours deep mahogany with a nice, creamy, beige head. Aroma is lightly fruity, pleasant black currants, roasted malts, yeast and a little bit of oak. Good, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is lightly tart, powerfully roasted. Some coffee and pleasantly vinious. Lovely. hopdog (4444), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 5, 2008 325ml bottle acquired in trade with douglas88 (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, licorice and a trace of dark fruits. Tastes of roast, licorice, dark fruits, and coffee. Bitter coffee finish that balanced out the sweetness. KiwiInTheUK (6), London, Greater London, England does not count Jul 5, 2008 Tried this first time when I was travelling in Africa and was a favourite while I was backpacking. Then found that you can buy it at many offlicenses here in the UK! It’s got a really great complex roasted taste, I personally like that so I have to give it high marks! Much tastier and less watery than regular guiness if that makes sense. fonefan (4062), Ulfborg, Denmark May 29, 2008 Bottle 66cl @<a href=http://ratebeer.com/forums/thisted-kalder---%F8lsmagning-den-1204_87119.htm target=_new> Thisted Tasting by Maria.. Clear dark brown color with a large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy malt bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (120408) douglas88 (652), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle thanks to Doppelganger. Pours a swirling black body with a mighty tan head on it that floats around like an ice cream float. The aroma is full of very sweet candies and roasted malts. When I first drank this I was quite surprised; the Nigerian version is quite different for sure; imagine a deep and musty Nigerian mineral deposit hidden in the jungle, they take bits of rock and minerals and mix them with Guinness to get this. It’s full of a metallic and mineral flavors, I think I’m good on vitamins for awhile. Also, the rich malts that you expect along with a sweet coffee finish. There is also the sorghum, which really sticks out as unusual. A bit of bitterness also. Wow. This beer is amazingly complex and so very different. I think that this beer is near perfect in the sense of being exactly what is should be, and not anything else. Just damn good and different. Thanks Casey. Rating #500.
