Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana should be rated here.

A Mes rate: Most pleased that they have this at asda up the road. I’m not really a fan of regular Guinness but this is much more like. Sugar cream and cookies in the nose. I really think it smells great. Like a tasty dessert. Typical Guinness looks. Pitch black with a good long lasting tan head and decent lacing. Palate is pretty much as good as anything. Velvet (yup i know its cheesy but thats how it is) and creamy. A strong smokey coffeee and roasted malt flavour with the extra good stuff clearly there but not offensive. Finish is lengthy and begins creamy but gradually turns bitter the more it goes on. Guinness with knobs on and much better for it.

First of al;l the appearance here, poured into my westmalle trappist glass, what a sight,. huge brown head, really good looking. Aroma is malty, coffee and burnt, maybe a bit too burnt for me. Taste however is Particularly malty, coffe, dark dark bitter chocolate with a little bready aroma/ taste coming through too. Defo one to have again, as at 7.5% isnt the strongest of stouts, but a very full flavour. Highly enjoyable.

Bottle-Nice black color with a large, frothy, brown head. More carbonation than the drought. The bitter finish was more than I expected.

Quite sweet flavor, fruity, sourly and notes of candies. Quite bitter, dry and astringent finish. Few fruitiness, but more hoppiness and roasted malt as the nigerian version.

Dense and plentiful foam, mighty persistent and skin tight. Black color, much somber and inscrutable. Decide and much strog scent, slightly hidden from a solid head- Notes of coffee, bitters chocolate and ash. Dry taste, much bitter and of very long persistence. Cocoa and coffee pips fragrance. Excellent length of smells and taste.

Black opaque, thick dark head, lasting. toasty chocolate, nuts, some fruit, saltanas in aroma very light sourness. Awesome rich toasty warmness, bitter chocolate and coffee. Light fruityness, and light diecytle butteryness, lingering bitterness, that slowly reveals nice hop flavour.

The Islands’ version. A good stout, though there are many better ones. Night and day to the Guiness draft beers being sent here domestically. Very Bitter, fruity, creamy, roasty and burnt parts. Black, cocoa poweder, malts. Drinkable. Thanks Viggio.

Proof that Guinness can still make a bloody good stout. This is streets ahead of the mediocre draught. Poured tar black with a monstrous tan marshmallow head. Good head retention, nice lacing. Aroma is much more inviting and to style than the nitro-draught’s current dessert trolley mix. This is dry and toasty, with notes of cocoa powder, coffee grounds, marshmallow, burnt rubber and port-like alcohol. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy but nicely carbonated. Feels much more substantial and stout-like than the draught. Initial taste impression is sweet and malty, with plenty of dark fruit and wood. However, the real kicker is that intensely bitter Guinness kick in the finish which is missing from the draught but magnificently present here, along with a wine-like alcoholic finish. This has restored my flagging faith in the brand. (33cl bottle, Amatos, best before 16/4/05)
