Macro taste permiates though the whole thing. Limited in complexity, but I will admit it has a nice malt body. Nothing out of the ordinary. Cheap though Sparky27 (1585), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours midnight black with a 2 finger foamy tan head that leaves spotty lacing. The nose is charred malt and faint cocoa. The taste is coffee, burnt malt, ashy cocoa and even some hoppy bitterness in the finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Much better than the US version. Thanks again Rusty! Pours black with a decent-sized chestnut head. Aroma is more boozy and roasty than traditional Guinness. Taste is quite a bit boozier, roastier, smokey, and oaky. Hints of chocolate in the background of both the aroma and taste. It tastes quite a bit like they let it ferment at a much higher temperature than standard Guinness as well. I get some higher-alcohol phenols. Far less drinkable than standard Guinness, but really nice to try. The tannins and higher alcohols make it really difficult to drink an entire pint of this. sm89walt (444), Canterbury, Kent, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2009 33cl bottle. A black beer with a fine, foamy beige head. A good combination of sweetness, subtle coffee tones, chocolate, roasted malts and toasted bread notes on the nose. The flavours are of roasted malt, bitter chocolate with some liquorice and some smokiness. Dry, burnt bitterness and a warming quality in the finish. Thick mouthfeel that envelopes the palate and lasts well. graham515 (424), Houston, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2009 12 oz bottle I enjoyed when traveling for work. Pours a thick deep brown with a frothy lacing tan head. Nose is inviting with some bittersweet chocolate, oak, roasted malt. Entry is supper dry. A bold french roast coffee flavor follows and lingers a while with notes of oak. Mouth is full bodied and chewy. Alcohol pokes through the top at times. I am glad I came across this after talking about it in the Stone U Stout class! Way more complex then the usually available Guinness varieties in the US. jaysonl69 (24), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

I can’t explain it but I like this one a lot more then the regular Guinness. I find this one to be really top quality and enjoyable, living up to the rep that Guinness has, while regular Guinness to me is just ok. Is it the Ireland vs. Canada brewing issue? I don’t know, but if the standard Guinness tasted like the Foreign Extra I’d drink it a lot more.
