Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana should be rated here.

Deep, dark, vinous, bitter roast malts and sweet molasses. Nicely balanced with the burnt malt, hops, and sourness scrubbing the sweetness away. Surprisingly enjoyable cold.

Bottle, 330ml.. Pours very dark, with tan head. Intense aroma of dark malts and molasses. Quite bitter on the tongue, with the alcohol content very evident, though overall a decent stout.

Bottle, St. Lucia/Piton brewery version. Pours black, opaque, and with a thick foamy head and leaving some lacing. Aroma of molasses, malt, and some tartness in the background. Fairly high in carbonation. The flavors are strange with a lingering acrid finish and not enough malt sweetness. Instead it tastes burnt and bitter. Comes across as a strange brew, and I’m told that’s due to its being brewed with the Piton base beer.

Pours a deep black liquid with a very thick foamy brown head that stay a long time and a good amount was left at the end. Aroma is very strong roasted malts. Flavors are quite powerfull , smoky, roasted malts and chocolates and some coffee, bitter and not sweet just on the right level. This is a very well made brew, super nice and very enjoyable.

Flaske.

Pours black with a large fluffy brown head that leaves its mark on the glass as it dissipates. Has an aroma of wood, smoke, and roast. Flavor is a little watery still but an immense improvement over the standard guinness products. This is actually quite enjoyable since I started trying different brews with guinness, I love that malty, woody, smoky, coffee flavor of guinness. This brew is all of the flavor that makes regular guiness good, but with more intensity that makes this brew great. A nice strong borderline session brew.
