COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

Poured into a glass stein. Absolutely pitch black with two fingers of tan head. Looks perfect. Rich molasses smell and some vanilla bean. Tastes like molasses also. A balanced bitterness throughout with a burnt malt at the end. Thick, almost creamy body with low carbonation. Wow. Calling it a benchmark. Guinness has brought it strong on this one.

A tall tan head sits on top of a thick pouring and very dark black body with deep garnet highlights. The head hangs on well and maintains a small covering on top of the beer as I drink. The glass holds on to some nice lacing as well. The aroma has dark roasted and toasted malt notes. Within this I get a hint of coffee, some sweetness a touch of something fruity and a very slight boozy note. Its aroma comes alive here on the tongue. The dark roasted malt brings a full bodied hit of toasted barley notes with sweet touches of toffee that play well off the slight sweet boozy notes. Holding the sweetness in check are some dark roasted coffee notes and mild hop bitterness. The palate has a creamy, slightly slick and full mouth feel and soft carbonation.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a creamy tan head that left sticky lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Rich flavor of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, molasses and had a dry finish

Aroma: toasted malts, coffee, light chocolate. Appearance: dark brown/black, medium beige creamy head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: initial sweets remain, toasted notes, coffee, chocolate, very malty but then turns very bitter in the average-long finish. Overall: fantastic Foreign Stout, excellent palate, lovely transition from sweet to bitter. Bottle from Sainsbury’s, Pimlico.

Excellent Irish stout, subtle aroma with hints of chocolate and coffee, full stout flavour with coffee being most prominent note, palate is lighter than expected but excellent mouthfeel. Looks fantastic in a tulip glass. Love this Stout

Aroma: caramel, chocolate, coffee, roasty, Appearance: Deep opaque black. Towering tan foamy head. Taste: light sweetness, medium bitterness, salty, Palate: medium body, creamy, sticky, average carbonation, bitter, long finish, Overall: This was pretty nice. Sort of like a tamed down russian imperial. Lots of roasted malts, coffee, raisin, plum. Much more going on than traditional guinness stout. Poured from bottle.
