COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

Pours a clean black with a light brown head. Just the smell let’s you know its not like a regular stout. You can smell the hops with the caramel. The taste is very similar. Hops with chocolate and a nice toffee behind it. A medium bitterness on the after taste but definitely more then normal for a stout. For an IPA drinker this is possible a very likable stout.

Bottle at home in Barbados, 17th August 16. Can’t believe I have not rated this before. Pours a thin black ale, some visible carbonation. Aroma is roasty, ashy, slight metallic. Taste is complex from the start, ash, tobacco, cocoa, roasted malts, liquorice. Really nice stuff.

330 ml bottle from Meinl am Graben, Vienna, bb 04/02/17.
Black body, with a big, creamy, lacing, brown-beige head.
Aroma of tiramisu, caramel, coffee, cocoa powder, some vanilla, slight dark fruits.
Tastes of coffee, caramel, cocoa powder, vanilla, some wood, some liquorice, slight dark fruits.
Medium, very creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes roasty-bitter, quite dry, with coffee, cocoa powder, liquorice, wood, subtly sweet, a bit alcohol warming.

Tasty. Quite sweet, but well balanced, with enough roastiness and a lovely coffee/caramel combination. Great smooth, creamy palate. Very good style example, fully aromatic, but really quaffable at the same time. Another proof that this is one of the very best macro breweries.

Bottle - Pours black, creamy tan head. Curious aroma of coffee, burnt pancakes, chocolate syrup, and funk. The flavor is better, and somewhat typical of stout, maybe a little on the sweet side.

Has similar roasted flavours to Guinness original, but a less bitter lighter fruitier taste. Flavours are of blackcurrant, coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, malt and some mild brandy type flavours. Good stuff would try again. Price paid: £1.89.
