Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editorís Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

Bottle - dark and dense with large frothy tan head. Only faint aroma - good mouthfeel, thick and silky, full of flavour with good bitter finish.

Top 10 for my favorite stouts. I love the bite that comes with it and the taste of barley. More complex than normal Guinness. I finally found it locally.

33cl bottle at the Gentse Kano en Kajak Organisatie in Ghent (7 IV 2016). First things first. I was handed an overdue bottle, almost two years after the expiration date. I always let my beers mature past the best-before date, yet I expect a fresh beer bottle when buying one. One can imagine that this appreciation thus is rather different, opposed to a normal foreign extra stout. Letís have a go. This classic extra stout has a very smarmy, oily character. This Irish version from St. Jamesís Gate pours a thick greasy liquid, really sticking to the glass, pitchblack and with a firm brown, cassonade collar on top. Good looking for sure. The scents are infiltrated with strong smoked ham notes, full of smoky malts. The taste has lots of coffee, bitters, some caramellish and dark sugar features. Very oily, medium to strong bodied. A great malts sensation, with lots of roast, from a bitterish almost imperial stout brew. This is a perfect strong black beer!

UPDATED: APR 6, 2016 Bottle. Thanks to my buddy Trevor for bringing me this (and an entire box more!) from Belize. Shame I donít get the country tick though (oh well, the shitty green bottles lagers will give me that!). This pours very dark, with a lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is dark bready caramel, undertones of roast and prunes. The plate is the same, but more assertive on the roast end, with some subtle medicinal notes in there too (God knows how old this bottle is lol). Moderate roasty bitterness. Rather oily texture, with a nice full body. Better than expected!

Great brown-beige top which is pretty longlasting, creameaness as guiness draught but more choclate notes and very pleasant bitterness. Aroma of bitter chocalate but doesnt seem much better than the regular guiness, could be stronger. Apart from that very good beer, good for session drinking but still having the taste. I would reccommend

Bottle. Gorgeous looking black with fluffy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, anise, slight tangy note. Taste is sweet chocolate, smoke, malt. The bitterness carries it through, knocking out the sweetness. Thereís a faint sour citrus note Iím getting. Medium-bodied, smoothly carbonated. Always enjoy getting a bottle of this, Guinness like my uneducated palate used to know, bitter and roasty.
