COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editorís Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

Bottle. Dark coffee brown color with foamy brown head. Thick nose of malt and estery hop, both burnt sugar and coffee dominate. Heavy palate of brown sugar, roasted coffee, and caramel. Thick in malts. Did not pick the hops up as much. Bitter malt finish. Both crisp and bitter. Very nice.

Iíd been a "purist" as far as Guinness is concerned prior to picking this up, but a good friend insisted it was good so I gave it a whirl. Smell of toasted malt goodness, but kind of muted and watery. Taste is truly a work of beauty with coffee, chocolate, licorice and a light carbonated touch alongside the malts...much stronger flavor than the usual Guinness! Surprisingly quaffable and not super heavy for a stout. Slightly over-cabonated for my tastes, but is an excellent beer that I was pleasantly surprised by regardless. Very good.

Barring more obscure beers found at specialist suppliers this is my favourite alcoholic drink at the minute. Its quite potent and creates an immediate and lasting impression. Lovely burnt coffee aroma and taste with a lovely thick feel to it. If the head was more substantial I would give it full marks. Far superior to standard guiness and even better than the west Indies porter.

Bottle from off licence somewhere in London. dark brown, rich beige head, good lacing. Very easy drinking beer. Some roasted malt, coffee and chocolate in aroma, but wait, also a bit if sour cabbage, but not bad, just a hint, and I hate this smell in beer. Taste is very coffee, chocolate smooth mouthfeel and a bitter sweet delicate finish.

One of only a handful of beers to gain the 5 rating, not my favourite but in my top 5, Guinness Foreign extra stout is not only the ultimate Guinness and Ultimate stout, but arguably the ultimate alcoholic drink ever conceived. Itís nose is powerful, an formidable presence, igniting the senses with unrivalled hop and Roasted Maltís, Toasted Espresso and Burnít Barley in perfect unison. It pours a heroic grade stout of Dark but not draught black liquor, thick, and cloudy, developing a small, quickly clearing tan head which sizzles slightly before standing as the dark ruby knight it is. In the mouth, it instantly gives way to a very harsh, full, bitter, malty weight and amazing grittiness which leaves the mouth feeling very malty. It tastes pretty much as you expect from Guinness but amplified with no trace of velvet smoothness present in draught. A dominating storm of roasted caramel, Galena hop, roasted malt barley, coffee, liquorice and ginger light the moth and taste buds on fire as itís cocoa like element adds the charismatic hits of almond, hazelnut, and smoked wood tones. The Finish is very powerful, bitter chocolate, and toasty nuttiness, fulfilling, thirst quenching, challenging and perfect.

Bottle 0,65ltr: Opaque black colored brew with an sweet bitter taste with an well hidden sournesh. Hints of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and caramel. This one is brewed at Guinness Cameroun and bought it in the Hague at Africa Products Shop, Spui 231. Handy with an Nigerian girlfriend to find this kind of shops, extra handy if they sell African beers for foreign ticks.
