Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor's Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica and Nigeria, should be rated here.

330ml bottle - pours near black, with a thick tan head. Aroma of coffee, heavily roasted malt, dark sour fruit. Slight alchohol in the nose. Flavour is very dense, heavy and roasty, lots of coffee and sour cherries, with chocolate rounding out the finish. Mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Very good stout, in many ways similar to an American imperial. Alcohol warms in the finish as well at the back of the throat. Really good.

Pretty good. Had this one in london. Has a more robust flavor than the draught, but thats to be expected. It feels a bit more carbonated than the draught as well. Toasted, oaky flavor and a mildly bitter finish. I would reccomend it but I would also say that I prefer the original draught to this one.

I enjoy this more than it’s little brother. It’s a loaf of bread in a bottle.

I enjoyed several of these in a stout/porter session .Its heaps better than ussual Guinness.I think you’re meant to drink this one warm with a pipe and chess set. This 26 year old "young buck " liked how burnt and chocolatey bitter the palate waz. Some werid oak stuff.

(Bottled at the Brewery Bar, Guinness Storehouse on 2008-07-02) Black. Medium-sized tan head. Chocolate and little hops in nose. Quite amount of carbonation in full palate. Chocolate, some alcohol, sweetness in taste. Slight bite from hops. Nice.

Bottled Irish version. Pours jet black but holding it to light reveals a ruby tinge at the extreme edges. Frothy tan head that didn’t last but didn’t disappear completely, either. Coffee in the aroma with a faint hint of fuggles hops. Initial light sweetness gives way to an intense bitterness. Medium-full body with lively carbonation leads to a long, bitter finish. One bottle easily leads to two which, at 7.5%, can lead to trouble. Benefits from time in the fridge but I wouldn’t recommend serving it too cold.
