COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

12 oz. bottle. Solid black. Has a more bubbly brown foam than the Guinness Draught, what with no widget. Smell is just a little heady with notes of treacle and coffee. Taste is sweeter than the Draught, and does have a good thread of alcohol to it. Thicker than the Draught. Almost like an Imperial Stout. Tough of the Guinness essence (slight sourness). A crunch of hops comes in at the end, with an almost American aggressiveness.

650ml bottle served in a tulip. A: Pours a deep black color forming a nice and huge beige head. Fizzing carbonation going up and some lacings left around the glass. Medium retention but the head never disappears completely S: Good. Roasted malts. Coffee notes. Wood. Ginness hops. Alcohol T: As the nose, roasted malts, coffee notes, wood notes, dark chocolate notes, earthy hops. A sweet upfront and a roasted bitter (considerable) aftertaste M: Creamy body. Good carbonation. Sweet upfront. Molasses sensation. Aftertaste is dry and bitter O: Absolutely drinkable. Great beer. Recommended [ BA Review @ 6/23/2012 ]

Backlog rating on 11-21-2012 (Bottle) The appearance is a large frothy tan head that mostly diminishes, dark brown opaque body, very little carbonation observed, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, hint of hops, semi-sweet, dark fruits, and molasses. The flavor is molasses, roasted malt, bitter, hops, and a dry roasted finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is medium bodied. This beer is most quaffable and the ABV is well masked. I like how the flavors come together to make an enjoyable tasting beer.

330ml bottle from Asda - Opaque, pitch black body with a huge pale tan head and excellent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and slightly bitter dark fruit. Medium body and medium carbonation. I like this, but having said that, I do most stouts of this strength.

330ml bottle from Tasty Life, Xiamen. This is the 6.8% version specially brewed in Ireland for the Chinese market. Pours black with a dissipating beige head. Roasted aroma of chocolate and toffee. Bitter sweet finish. Will be going back for more. Edited for typo

33 cl från Guinnessbryggeriet. Delar denna med Linda. Svart färg. Doftar rostad malt, kaffe, choklad och rostat bröd. Smakar bränt bröd och lite mjölk.

"i’m not the type who thinks any form of Guinness is the be all end all of dark beer. quite the opposite usually. i think the average guiness i have rated is about a 3, with the best being a 3.4 (which is an "average" rating for me). that said, this one is hands down THE best Guiness I’ve ever had. More flavor, more hops, more balance. Just a good, high quality stout. Lots of roasted malt, chocolate in more abundance than usual, and a bitter hoppiness that a few friends thought was "off" but i enjoyed. my new favorite, easily. 2nd time - just as nice.

0,3l Flasche. Schwarzes Bier mit bräunlicher Schaumkrone. Angenehmer Duft nach Röstaromen. Schmeckt nach Röstaromen, Schokolade, Vanille undgeröstetem Getreide. Vollmunig und ausgewogen.

Tremendously rich flavor of coffee and roasted malt with some sour-sweet fruits intermingled. Long, deliciously bitter finish.

See: Black, one finger tan head. No swirling carbonation like normal Guinness. Smell: Dark fruit, fruit cake mix, dates, molasses/brown sugar. Taste: Sweet molasses, rich fruit, hint of peppery spice. Pallet: Rich, thick, well carbonated but not too lively. Longish bitter finish. Lovely, complex stout. Much richer, sharper and flavoursome than standard Guinness.

From a 330ml bottle (only 99p from B and M!) I drank this chilled because its very refreshing like that on a hot day. Nice rocky light brown head and all the taste that you’d expect from Guinness but sweeter. Be careful if you have a lot of these lying around. Its far too easy to drink.
