COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Foreign Extra Stout is a beer like no other. The most full-flavoured of all. Singular and striking. Uniquely satisfying. Brewed with extra hops and roasted barley for a natural bite. Bitter and sweet. Refreshingly crisp. Always rewarding. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana should be rated here.

Bottle. Black with a massive lasting, thick foamy, deep tan head and lacing galore - looks awesome. Dark chocolate, dark roasted malt, nutty, liquorice, vanilla, basement aromas. Moderately sweet, at least moderately bitter - nice flavour. Medium body, soft carbonation, astringent slightly burnt dark chocolate finish. Very likeable.

poured from a chilled 11.2 ounce bottle into a 12 ounce english pint shaped glass. oddly, reading the bottle’s back label, it states "malt liquor" to the right of "product of ireland". it also says "enjoyed by millons around the world". what TF ever, man, this is super tasty so make that millons plus 1.

330 ml bottle. Smoky and roasted aroma. Has a milk chocolate like reducing head which doesn’t hang in there (unlike the standard Guinness). The liquid has a black tar like appearance. The taste is very bitter, malty, dark fruit and dark chocolate like leaving a slight burning sensation at the back of your throat after the swallow. It is also very full bodied and chewy. Overall an excellent foreign stout that would go great with beef stews or heavy puddings.

11.2 ounce bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a near black with a velvety head of khaki colored foam. Good retention. The aroma is fairly muted. I get some faint dark chocolate notes, but I’m really struggling to get much character from the aroma. The taste has some fruity notes along with some roast and char character. There just really isn’t much going on with this beer, unfortunately. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Moderate carbonation.

330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 8/29/2012. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, molasses, light char, raisin, plum, herbal, floral, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of dark/roasted malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, molasses, light char, raisin, herbal, floral, light pine, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, molasses, herbal, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and earthy hops; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, smooth, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent foreign stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roast malt and earthy hops flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Flaska på Barbados. Svart med moccafärgat skum. Rostade toner i doften tillsammans med choklad och kaffe. Sältan i smaken är delikat, därtill kaffe, choklad, röda bär och torkad frukt. Mjuk och rund munkänsla.

Bottle - Trinidad version brewed by Carib and drank, lots of them, by the pool! Poured a black color with brown edges and an off white head. Roast, chocolate, some brown sugar sweetness, dark fruits, and a lighter coffee finish ... extra points for drinking by the pool in 90+ degree weather in March.

Roasted coffee notes with a bitter finish. Sort of like Extra's big brother. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
