COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Arthurís philanthropic legacy and devotion to generous, full-flavored beers, Guinness Generous Ale is special edition holiday beer that was developed in a traditional winter ale style, but with more body and the distinct roast for which Guinness Draught is known. With a rich amber appearance, the vanilla notes accent Guinness Generous Aleís silky, yet vibrant taste.

I was able to try this as part of the Winter Sampler pack. First off, why is this beer, or any of the other Guinness brews stuck in a package with the disgusting Guinness Black Lager, I will never know. This has a nice vanilla taste, strong roast, and a hint of toffee. This is a great beer, and worthy of the Guinness name, unlike a earlier mentioned brew.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber brown body under a small wispy off-white head. The nose is pretty nondescript, just some light caramel sweetness and just a bit of hoppiness. The flavor is fairly bland and boring as well, sweet caramel and toasty malt with a minimal floral hop note on the finish. Medium bodied with lots of fizzy carbonation. Just comes across and. Little too bland and boring.

Dark red-amber pour with a tan head. The aroma has some strong toffee notes and not much else. The flavor is a mix of toffee, grass and some odd, hard to nail down spice notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Mahogany in color with a lite tan head. Aroma is malty, sour and wheat. Lite, bitter, nutty and caramel flavors stand out. Good not great.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brownish red with a one finger tan head. Smells of toasted bread, malt, and a little caramel. The taste is of toast, light caramel sweetness and a bitterness that has a slightly metallic touch that lingers in the finish. Low carbonation with a medium body.

Pours amber with a slight tan head. Slightly roasty with some caramel and toffee. Some bitterness. Decent beer.

Guinness Generous Ale has a medium, off-white head, a clear, reddish-brown appearance, lots of bubble streams, and just a few bits of lacing left behind in splotches. The aroma is of straight-up brown bread crust, with just the faintest spice. Taste is the same, with wonderful sweetness and a pleasant hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Guinness Generous Ale finishes clean, refreshing, and ultra drinkable. This is a superb offering from Diageo. RJT

bottle. Amber with small head. Sweet with light malt, and slightly medicinal. I donít know what else to say about this. Other than the slightly unpleasant flavor, Itís just extremely boring.

Single bottle purchase from Famous Liquors. Slight oxidation under cap that goes away after pouring. Pours a big, non-Guinnessy head over a deep brown body. General caramel malt smell with a note of Scottish peat; not a bad surprise. Mouthfeel a bit flaccid and watery at first, then there an aggressive hit of malt. Malts get deeper further down the glass, leading to a slight note of phenol; well, if this is their holiday beer, Iíve found it a bit past its prime.

12oz bottle from Guinness holiday variety pack. Poured into pint glass, clear ruby-ish brown color with minimal off-white head. Aroma of toasty caramel malt. Taste is the aroma balanced with some decent grass hops. Light body, average carbonation, smooth, balanced, some lingering grass afterwards. Decent.

A foul aroma with a slight bit of malt, but mostly chemicals, corn, water. Taste is rather neutral, neither noteworthy nor offensive, with a fair bit of carbonation and a little sweetness. Watery palate, nothing lingers. Would not buy again.
