If you were in a pub sometime between 1821 and 1970, chances are this is the Guinness you would have been drinking. Originally brewed as the XX version of our Porter, it’s hoppy, roasty, and crisp, with a bittersweet finish.

500ml bottle: BBD 01 Jun 16. Drank at home in the early hours of 03 Oct 15. Poured slowly into a UK pint sleeve. Looked like a Guinness, black with a tanned coloured foaming head. Aroma like a Guinness, burnt malts and other grains. Tasted like a Guinness. Malty, over roasted and with a hint of hidden sweetness that never actually materialises. Decent enough, went well with some strong Cheddar I had for a late supper.

Bottle from the Kensington Tesco. Pours dark brown with a slight beige head. Aroma of dark malt with some dark chocolate. Med body or so. Flavor matches aroma, with a little bit of earthiness added. Pretty good porter.

Pours deep black with a foamy tan head. Aroma is sweetish with roasted malts, fruits and a hint of caramel. Taste has roasted malts, coffee and a nice dryish and bitter finish. Lively CO2. Very well balanced and tasty brew. (4,2% version, 440 ml can from a Co-Operative store)

Bottle shared at The Cad’s 10 year get together. 29/03/2015. As Guinness Original XX picked up from B$M Bargains. Dark ruby red coloured pour with a lasting but fading light tan head. Aroma is nutty roast, little ash, some lactose sugar, with background dark dried berries. Flavour is composed of tangy berries, tart plum, choc, light ashy roast. Big carbonic acid bite in the finish. Palate is highly carbonated, frothy, tart, little abrasive. Little milky sweet.

500ml bottle marked "Guinness Original XX". Black colour with a foamy off white head. Far better to taste and smell than the draught flow version. Nutty and toasty aromas.

Bottiglia da 0,33. Birra stout di buon valore. Schiuma adeguata ma volatile. Colore nero impenetrabile. Carbonatura leggermente eccessiva. Aroma di caffè forte e liquirizia. Maltatura estrema. Gusto di caramello tostato quasi da croccante. Finale molto lungo e deciso ed amaro. Consiglio 6/10

Flaska systembolaget. Kolsvart vätska med guldigt lätt skum. Rostad doft med lite choklad och vanilj. Ganska vattnig med svagt rostad karaktär. Lite jord, lite bark. Och så lite nötighet. Viss beska

Appearance- almost black, with a dark brown/ruby tinge at the base. Massive beige head which settles, leaving plenty of lacing. Aroma- toffee, roast malt, milk chocolate, hint of hops, some coffee. Taste- smooth chocolate, followed by roast malts, milky coffee, underpinned by hops. A bit watery towards the end. Milky mouthfeel.
