UPDATED: MAR 13, 2004 Definately less than the canned version.
Rerate 13/3/2004; Not as good as on tap. Nice aroma of roasted malts -coffee. Taste is strong coffee malty again, quite bitter and very dry. Very decent brew.

I really didn’t like this. It may have been too cold, but i’m not really a fan of stout.

Chose the bottle ’cause I don’t like the nitro mouthfeel fom the draught cans. Deep red in colour, good head and lacing, not such a show pony as the nitroed brews. Bitterness is over the top for a beer with so few redeeming features, light body, very little flavour, just black malt (charcoal) and bitterness. Poured 1/2 down the drain, not worth the effort.(brewed in Australia by CUB, no wonder it’s crap)

Much sharper with a more bitter taste than the draught version.

This beer definately lives up to its billing! I waited so long to try it because people used words like bitter and sour to descibe it. The bitterness is a good kind of bitterness and to me the sour notes were just barely detectable. The best beer I have tried so far. Update: I’m not changing any scores, just wanted to point out that the Guinness Extra Stout I rated came from Ireland, not Canada.

I prefer this to the supposed ’draught’ version of Guinness. Its a shame that it is pastuerised nowdays. Try the Foreign Extra Stout for a REAL treat!

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2004 I too prefer the draught version (nitro can incl.)- but still the original is very, very good! Try it with bacon and eggs - makes you want to eat breakfast all day.

As a dry stout, it’s not that bad. However in comparison to either the widget or draught varieties, it doesn’t stack up. (6.0% abv in Australia by the way)
