Bottle in PJ’s, Carlingford, 26/01/13. Label states 4.2%. Light black/extremely dark mahogony brown in light with a good sized frothy beige head. Nose is roast malt, barley, mineral and metallic notes, fairly subdued overall. Taste comprises roast malt, barley, grain, mineral tones. Medium in body with moderate carbonation if not a little on the prickly side, dry finish. An average dry stout.

tfredvik (1041) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 24, 2014
Close to black body with hints of something deep red. The tan head is large and creamy, but nowhere near as dense and long-lasting as the nitro widget head you get from a can. The head shrinks to a fully covering film, with lots of foam left on the glass. The moderate aroma is malty, dry and heavily roasted, almost burnt, with ashy notes, also mild coffee. Moderate flavour with dark berries and light yeast in addition to the ashy roasted malty notes. Very little sweetness and not much bitterness either. Light-bodied and dry with a pleasant carbonation level, i.e. not as depressingly flat as the canned version. Boring stuff, but it’s better than Guinness from a can if you put decent carbonation before a thick pillowy head.

Bottle. Nice beige head, strong as well, pitch black colour. Roasted barly on the nose. Chocolate with coffee, some sour undertones. Delightfully smooth, overall - as it should be.

W smaku kwaskowość palonych słodów, lekie nuty kawowe i czekoladowe. Najmocniej jednak daje sie wyczuć smak mocnej kawy zbożowej. Całość wieńczy dość długi, przyjemnie gorzkawy finisz.

0.33 flaske sea side bol. Svart med brunt skum. Veldig forskjellig fra vanlig med nitrogen. Aroma av makt og kaffe. Smak av brent malt og kaffe.

At Murphy's. On draft. Excellent thick foam that stays for the entire drink. Thick light chocolate with a touch of sweetness. Perfect pour that took some time to pour and get. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Douberd (2070) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - MAY 20, 2014
Bottle at home with a screw cap, 500 ml, poured into a big Guinness glass, ABV 4.2% Almost totally black pour with a very tall and beige head, thick and creamy, less than the nitro cans or the draught version though, that turns to a sopay one really quick, but with good retention, leaving heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, oats, a bit of coffee. Not very strong aroma. Nice taste, typical Guinness actually, roasted malts, coffee and oats, some light hops on the finish. Medium thick body, again no so thick as the nitro cans or draught, carbonation on the high side. Overall what someone expects from a Guinness but I think i’ll stick to the (much cheaper here and better) cans.

Can from Tesco, Carrick-On-Shannon [250414]
Black, frothy beige head, some lacing
Aroma of soft roasted malts, touch of dark chocolate, dark malts, not much on the nose
Taste of roasted malts, some dark malts, dab of bitter dark chocolate, slight burnt notes
Palate - Medium carb, light to medium body, falrly bitter. Finish is dry with some bitter burnt roast malts
Overall - Not as good as draught Guinness, thinner with a more bitter finish

Aroma: roasted dark malts, wheat. Appearance: dark color, nice white/beige head. Taste: nice medium bitterness (roasted malts), coffee, slightly watery and dry, acid. Palate: low body and medium carbonation, nice long roasted finish. Overall: Classical stuff, but still a very good beer, for me much better then Draught version.

oliodnb (252) - ITALY - APR 19, 2014
UPDATED: APR 20, 2014 33cl bottle, Italy. Label says 5 instead of 4.3 ABV. Black with a foamy head, different from the fine, creamy one of the draught Guinness. Aroma and taste are also different, sweeter and less toasted. Some coffee and hops in the finish.
