Nose has lots of raisins, metal, hint of tar, not really too pleasant. Flavor is raisins, loads of molasses, tar, burned malts, hint of smoke, salmiak and coal. Almost full bodied, strong and spritzy carbonation, a tad oily palate. Like Guinness concentrate, really burned and unbalanced. mcdav2154 (297), Germany

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Bottle at Café ’t Pleintje in Hengelo, Netherlands. The pour yields an extremely dark mahogany body with a massive, lasting head of spongy, light brown froth. Patches of spotty, splotchy lacing mark the glass. The aroma shows a deep and swirling meld of dark, earthy malts, big on toasted caramel, stewed figs, and raisins, with a bit of smoky molasses as well. Earthy hop notes lend a semblance of balance. Flavors are similar, again based in dark, fruity malt, most notable caramel, fig, raisin, and a hint of dark cherry. There is a touch of coffee roast, and again some mild, earthen hop bitterness. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation, the palate sports ample weight and considerable silkiness up front, finishing just a touch on the chalky side. There are definitely some Baltic Porter and some Belgian influences. Simply put, this destroys regular Guinness. Very good brew. jfb (416), Weihenstephan, Germany
